Murphy Splits Bill With Nantahala BY ADIR ARONSON The Murphy boys took a 33-27 victory from a tough group of Nan tahala boys while Nantahala's girls took an easy 36-15 victory from Murphy's girls. The Murphy boys tied 7-up at the end of the first quarter then took' a slim 15-11 halftime lead. They increased their lead in the third quarter 29-16, and victory was theirs. Jimmy May, Nantahala forward stole high-scaring honors from Ray Amos by one point as he buck eted 14 ^points. Ray Amos, Murphy captain of the game, lead Murphy as he bucketed 13 points all of which came as crucial times. He pumped in 7 points in the third quarter. Murphy guard, Ed Lovin good tied with Nantahala forward j jimmJe Day for third place honors as he bucketed 8 points. Other Murphy scorers were Bob by Stiles who bucketed 4 points; Pearl Johnson and Jimmy Mc Combs who each made 3 points; Birder Coffey ended Murphy sco ring with 2 points. The basket seemed to be stopped up for Murphy's girls as they lost 36-15. The Nantahala girls took a 17-5 halftime lead and hung on. They got 8 points via the free throw route .as Murphy committ ed 17 fouls. Carolyn Gregory, star forward, from Nantahala. led her- team to , victory as she pumped in 18 points.
