She bad resided here for a number

Funeral services were held at 11
a. m. Tuesday in First Methodist
Churh of which she was a member.
The Rev. Asmond Maxwell, pastor
and the Rev- Rhett Y. Winters, Jr.,
minister of the Episcopal Church of
the Messiah, officiated and burial
was In the family plot In Sunset
Cemetery.

Robert Napoleon Seabolt, seven

died at 9 a. m. Thursday, March 4
in a Murphy hospital after a short
illness.

the Rev. Weldon West officiating.

NeU Sneed Chief of Police of
Murphy, this week announced his
candidacy for the office of Clerk
of the Superior Court and has filed
with the County Board of Elect
ions for the Democratic Primary
to be held on May 29.
Mi-. Sneed Is a native of Chero
kee County and has served as a
policeman for the Town of Mur
phy for a period of sixteen years,
four and a half years of which he
has served as Chief. He also held '
the office of 'Mayor of the Town of
Murphy during the years 1946-48
Mr. Sneed is ? member of the
First Methodist Church of Murphy
and served for a number of years
as a member of the Board of Stew
ards and is presently a member of
Trustees of the church.
Mrs. Sneed is the daughter of
the late A. K. Dickey and a sister
of the late Mrs. F. O. Christopher.
Mr. and Mrs. Sneed have one
daughter, Jane, who is presently
employed by the Southern Bell
Telephone Company, Chattanooga,
Tenn.

Excitement is rising as the an
nual Smoky Mountain Basketball
tournament draws to a close this
week, while the Andrews Girls
team is the only Cherokee County,
team still in the play.
Andrews boys were dropped by
Murphy in a close 47-43 on the j
the first night of the tournament.
Murphy went on against Sylva and (
was nipped in the final minutes of
the game 34-30.
Robbinsvllle boys are still in the
tourney, having gained the semi
finals which will be played tonight
in Bryson City. Robbinsville
downed Webster 62-47 in the open
er and dropped Cherokee 74-55 in
the second night of tournament.
Franklin, Swain and Sylva are the
other teams still in play.
Meanwhile the Andrews girls, un
defeated in conference play, as are
the Franklin girls, are working up
to a climax. Andrews swamped
Murphy girls 65-25 in the first
night of play; and downed Chero
kee 63-32 in the second game. They
met RobbinsvHle girls?also a
strong team?last night.
Girls finals will be played in
Andrews Friday night, Mar. 12.

will be a candidate for reelection

An administrative officer in the
state treasurer's office in Raleigh
he obtained a leave of absence
from his treasury job to represent

lowing a long Illness.
He was a native and lifelong res

2:30 p. m. Tuesday in Grape Creek
Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wel

Sam Riley Amnions, 78, died in
the home of a daughter, Mrs. D. M.
Bennett in Andrews, after a long
illness.
A native of Andrews, he had liv
ed in Asheville for th$ past two
years and was visiting in Andrews
at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Odd Fel
lows Lodge and was formerly a
logging contractor in Cherokee
Graham and Clay Counties.
Funeral services were held Sun
day at 2 p. m. in the First Baptist
Church of Andrews, with the Rev.
Jim Truett and the Rev. Robert.
Barker officiating. Grandsons were
