Superintendents' Contracts
A bill to fix the term* of office ?
of the various superintendents of
the administrative units In Chero
kee County for four years was In
troduced Friday by Senator H. M.
Moore.
The bilUwas sent to the educa
tion committee of the Senate for
study.

tendents are under two year con
tracts.
The bill contains a clause to ex
tend the terms of the county educa

A group of 42 of the 90 members
of the Eighth grade of Murphy
School will leave early Thursday
morning by chartered Trailways
bus for a trip to Raleigh.
They will be accompanied by Al
vin Russell and Mrs. Kate Shields,
teachers of the grade. H. C. Bueck
will also go along to serve as guide.
The schedule was arranged by
Richard Maunev. The students
helped to finance the trip by sell
ing light bulbs.
They will stay at the Sir Walter
Hotel. They will visit the raido and
television stations; some of the ;
group will appear on television at
10:45 a- m. Friday.
They will visit the capitol the
j governor's mansion, the House of,

Opens Tuesday
Six a. m. Tuesday will find many
local trout fishermen seeking out
the streams to try their luck a
gainst the tricky fish.
The season for Mt. Mitchell,
Daniel Boone, Sherwood, Santeet
lah. Standing Indian, Fires Creek,
and Wayah Wildlife management
areas has been announced as fol
lows . i

The creel limit on trout is 10
fish per day and fish of any size

use of natural bait is prohibited on
the Nantahala River below the foot
bridge at White Oak Bottoms.
Also in Standing Indian, over
night camping is permitted at the
mouth of Bear Pen Creek, but fish
ermen wishing to. camp must ob
tain a permit at the checking sta
tion for each day's fishing prior to
entering the area.
There Is also an Improved camp
ground at White Oak Bottoms
which may be used. A checking
station Is located at the bottoms.

mitted at Santeetlah Wildlife Man
agement area at the mouth, of Big
Fat Cove on Slick Rocktreelc.
Permit must be obtained at the
checking station for each day's
fishing prior to entering the area.
It was warned that due to log
ging and road building operations
In the Fires Creek area cars may
not be permitted in the area be
yond the checking station on Wed
nesdays. Fishermen entering the
area do so at their own risk, It

To Be X-Rayed
The mobile x-ray units from the
North Carolina State Board of
Health will arrive in Murphy Thurs
day in preparation for the opening
of the mass x-ray survey of Chero
kee, Clay and Graham counties on
Friday.
One unit will be stationed in front
of the Courthouse in Murphy and
will begin operation at 9 a. ra.
Friday morning.
The second unit will go to Hayes
ville where It will be stationed at
the Courthouse April 1, 2, and 5.
In preparation for the survey
a citizen's committee with Mrs.
H. Bueck as chairman is contact
ing every home In Murphy.
Every home will receive a pam- .
pfilet giving information about
the the x-ray survey and a notice
regarding free transportation for
persons who have no way of get
ting to the survey unit.

to come in for x-ray. In Murphy,
the American Legion Auxiliary will
be in charge of the hostesses with
Mrs. John Davidson serving as
chairman.
At Hiawassee Dam, Mrs. Clay
Hopwood will be In charge of the
hostesses during the day the unit
is in operation at Hiwassee Dam
School.

Everyone will receive a confi
dential report of his x-ray through
the mail within three weeks after
