Elbert Queen
Dies After Illness
Elbert W. Queen, 74, a Marble
Farmer, died at 6 a. m. Friday.
April 29, in an Andrews hospital
following a long illness.
Funeral services - were held at
! p. m. Sunday in Marble Baptist
Church of which he was a member,
rhe Rev. A. B. Lovell and the Rev.
P. D. Denny officiated and burial
ivas in the church cemetery.
Surviving are the widow: four
daughters. Mrs. Leonard Palmer,
Mrs. Luther Coffey, Mrs. Rupert
rrull. and Mrs. Henry Palmer, all
of Marble: three brothers, John,
Will and Ramsey, all of Marble;
two sisters, Mrs. Huey- Hughes of1
Murphy, Route 2, and Mrs. Ed
Barton of Murphy; 15 grandchil
dren, and six great-grandchildren.

Pioneer, Dies
Jacob Manuel McGaha, 76, pio
neer Western North Carolina road
builder, died in an Andrews hospi
tal at 10:30 p. m. Saturday after an
extended illness.
He was a native of Swain Coun
ty, son of the late William and Har
riet Southards McGaha. promin
ent family of that section. He lived
in Clay County for 20 years.
He moved the first shovel ol
dirt at Newfound Gap when the
road from Cherokee to Gatlinburg,
Tenn., was being built.
Funeral services were held at
2 p. m. Monday in Mount Pleasant
Baptist Church near Hayesville.
The Rev. John Stansbury official
ed and burial was in Union Hill
Cemetery. .
Surviving are the widow, Mrs.
Bars Woodard McGaha; one son,
Garland of Bristol, Va.-Tenn. ; four
daughters, Mrs. Newton R. Pen
land of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Mrs.
