Deaths and Funerals R. F Roberts, 73, of Route I, Murphy, died at 10:45 a. m. Wed nesday in a Murphy hospital after a short illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Win nie Clayton Roberts; two sisters, Mrs. Joe Coleman of Brass town and Mrs. Sarah Heinbree of Route 3, Murphy and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a. m. Friday in Grape Creek Bap tist Church. i * The Rev. Lester Stowe and the Rev. Fred Lunsford officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Nephews were pallbearers. Townson Funeral Home was in charge. Buddy C. West Navy Quartermaster, Buddy Car roll West, 20, son of Garland G. and ParaW Almond West of Winston Salem was instantly killed Mon day March 2, in an automobile ac cident near South Hill, Va. The family lived in Andrews un til 1948 when they moved to Win ston Salem. . West, who joined the Navy in 1R53, was stationed at Norfolk, Va. j at the time of his death. He was ! serving on the destroyer USS John R. Pierce. He had attended Griffith High School in Winston-Salem and was a member of Easton Baptist Church of Winston-Salem. Surviving in addition to his par ents are four brothers, Barry and Garland, Jr. of the home; Bobby of Jacksonville, Fla., and Billy of Fort Wayne, Ind.; a sister, Betty Sue of the home; his grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Algia West of Oma Almond ol ^Reral services were heM at Valley River Baptist Church near Andrews, at 2 p. m. Friday. The Rev. Robert Barker officiat ed and burial was in the church cemetery. Townson Funeral Home was in charge. , W. G. Holland W. G. Holland, 72, of Brasstown, was found dead in his chicken house about 5:30 p m. Tuesday, March 12. He and his wift had gone to feed the chickens and she went to the house , leaving him to watch the chickens; when he didn't return, she went back and found him dead. Cherokee County Coroner, J. C. Townson pronounced death due to a heart attack. He had been in failing health for some time. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jes sie Sneed Holland; one son, Wayne Holland of Brasstown; eight daugh ters, Mrs. Haven Martin of Knox ville, Tenn., Mrs. Tom Watson, Mrs. Cecil Tipton, Mrs. Clarence Overpeck all of Brasstown, Mrs. Melvin Riffle of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Mrs. J. O. Thackek of Suffolk, | Va. Mrs. Jack Lloyd, of Asheville, \ and Miss Helen Holland of Atlanta; ' cne brother, Edgar Holland of An drews, and 16 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. ra. Thursday in the Murphy First Methodist Church. The Rev. Asmond L. Maxwell pastor, officiated and burial was in Sunset Cemetery. The body was taken by Townson Funeral Home to the home of Wayne Holland at 4 p. m. Wed nesday to remain until time to be brought to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the services. He was a native of Cherokee County, a son of the late William and Helen Arrowood McGuire, pro minent Cherokee County family and had lived near Robbinsville about 40 years. A forester in the Snowbird Mountains, he was well known to many sportsmen. He also was a veteran of World War L Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ma t>el Hooper McGuire: two sons, Garland, Jr. in the Army overseas. Johnson, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan Johnson of Tomotla was killed in an auto accident in Laurinburg, N. C-, Thursday, March 7 at 10:40 p. m. He was with an Airborne divis sion at Fort Bragg and had been in service about a year. Surviving, in addition to the par ents are two sisters, the Misses Joyce and Janet; 'and two brothers, Douglas and Larry all of the home Ivie Funeral Home received the body in Asheville and brought it here. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Monday March 11 in Tomotla Baptist Church. The Rev. Jack Palmer and the Rev. Leonard Mc Clurc officiated and burial was in the church cemetery, with military honors by the Joe Miller Elkins Post. No. 96, of the American Le gion. Pallbearers were, Floyd, J.
