Cherokee Demths Rev. James Wood Funeral services for the Rev James Johnson Wood, 75, of And rews who died early Sunday morn ing, Nov- 3 in an Andrews hospital after a long illness, were held Tuesday at S p. m. in the Andrews First Methodist Church The Rev- J. Edwin Carter, pas tor, the Rev. C. C- Washam of Kannapolis, the Rev. V- A- Morton of High Point, the Rev. F. C Smathers of Lake Junaluska the Rev. J. P- Hornbuckle, Jr. of Win ston-Salem, and the Rev- Vitold Gobins of Andrews officiated- Bur ial was in Valleytown Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. Born in Ogdensburg, New York, Oct 9, 1882, he was the son of the late Rev. Cyrus Valentine and Jemima Percy Wood He was married in 1920 to Miss Minta Harvey of Smokemount, who survives. Also surviving is a son, James A- Wood of Andrews. Mr. Wood entered the ministry in 1923 in the Georgia Conference of the Methodist Church; transferred to the Blue Ridge Atlantic Confer ence in 1827. He served pastorates in Atlanta, Epworth, Tallapoosa, and Alto, Georgia. In North Caro line he served BakersvUle, Mur phy, Ocrakoke, Hayesville, Walk ertown, Marion, Elk Park, Cand ler, Mills River (Horse Shoe), in the Western North Carolina Confer ence. In Mills River, his last appoint ment, he suffered a stroke in 1946 and retired to Andrews. The body remained at Ivie Fun eral Chapel in Andrews until time to be taken to the church. Pallbearers were: J. E. Rufty, Tom Day, W. E- Whitaker, Gordon Butler, Clarence Rogers and Jeff Brooks Masons served as honorary pall bearers. Mr- Wood requested that no flowers be sent. Tuesday, Oct. 29 in an Andrews hospital after a long illness .were held at Orr Branch Baptist Church at 2 p. m. Wednes day. The Rev. Clifford George offi ciated and burial was in Lone Oak Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Margaret Cantrell Williams; four daughters, Wanda of San Diego, Calif-, and Frances, Janice and Nancy of the home; and two sis ters, Mrs- Zadie Lail, and Mrs Mae Carver of Robbinsville. Townson Funeral Home was in charge. George W. Hartness Funeral services for George Washington Hartness, 79, a retired farmer of Murphy, who died at 6:05 a m- Monday in a Murphy hospital, after a short illness, were held at 1 a. m. Tuesday in Ebe nezer Baptist Church. The Rev. Weldon West officiated and burial was in the church ceme tery. He was a life long resident of Cherokee County son of the late Harm and Polly Horton Hartness of Murphy. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gertie Laney of Brasstown and Mrs. Icie Allen of Gold Branch, Oregon; one son, Jack of Ebenezer, and one brother, Bert of Murphy; and one sister, Mrs. Isabel Mc Lemore of Murphy. Townson Funeral Home was in charge. Rondall T. Duvall Funeral services for Rondall Tony Duvall, one-month-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Duvall of Marietta, Ga. who died at 9:45 p. m. Thursday, Oct. 30 in a Mariet ta hospital, were held in Ebenezer Baptist Church at Warne, at 11 a. m. Friday. The Rev- John Wade officiated and burial was in the church ceme tery. Surviving, in addition to the par ents, are a brother, Ronald; two sisters, Mae Lee and Marcella of the home; his paternal grandmoth er, Mrs. Laura Duvall of Warne, and his maternal grandfather, Os car King of Marietta Townson Funeral Home was in charge.
