Garden Club met Wednesday after
noon In the home of Mrs. H- E.
Davis
Mrs- J. Ward Long of Franklin,
past president of the Franklin Gar
den Club and a former resident of
Andrews spoke on "Garden Club
Emphases". She was introduced
by Mrs. L. B- Nichols.
Mrs. Long discussed the many
advantages derived from being a
federated club, the challenge and
inspiration gained from the litera
ture, and publications, including,
The North Carolina Gardener. She
urged the importance of organiz
ing a Junior Garden Club.
She discussed methods in drying
material for arrangements with a
minimum amount of time and ef
fort and limited knowledge- She
bad on display an all white dried
arrangement in the Colonial man
ner with a Williamsburg container,
also an arrangement featuring all
native dried materials in tones of
browns with a harmonizing walnut
wooden vertical container.
Mrs. John Christy president pre
sided, and announced plans for
the Christmas lighting contest to
be sponsored again this year. Re
ports were heard from the commit
tee chairmen and a change of
place and date of the December
meeting was announced. The date
has been re-scheduled to Thursday
December 5 in the home of Mrs
C. O. Van Gorder.
A social hour followed and re
freshments we reserved- Pine burr
"turkeys" were favors. Mrs. E.
S. Pudrom of Franklin and Mrs.
Ruth S. Pullium were guests.
