"To Murphy High School Ball 1 Killed, SbJtrMi... An attending physician Monday night said Homer Garrett was in critical condition and Bristol's condition was fair. The Utter re ceived a head injury, abdominal injuries and fractured ribs. The elderly Mr. Garrett suffered a broken neck, an attending physi cian said. In District Memorial Hospital la Andrews Mrs- Hildred Wal droup Laney of Andrews was re ported improved. The condition of Alvin Leroy Foster, 51, of Knoxville, Tenn, wcs listed as improved Tuesday morning. Mrs. Laney, her son, Charles Jr., 4, and Foster were occupants of a 1948 Ford that collided with the side of a Southern Railroad locomotive at the crossing on Highway 129, police said. The young boy received numer ous lacerations but was discharg ed from the hospital Sunday. State Highway Patrolman E. W. Hooper said Foster was driv er of the car. Both adults were Team". State Highway Patrolman Ray Heffner said in the truck acci dent, the vehicle stopped with a wheel on Jack Garret's head and neck- The man's father was pin ned under his son and the truck. Bristol was found under the right side of the vehicle. Bristol was listed as owner of the truck/ the patrolman said Andrews Police Chief F. H. Mehaffey also investigated the train-car wreck in Andrews. He said the car was enroute into An drews when it smashed into the side of the train. Funeral services for Mr. Gar* rett were held at 2 p. m- Satur day in Martin Hill Baptist Church, Clay County. The Rev. Andy Hogan officiat ed and burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Garrett was a na tive of Clay County, a son of Homer and Anna Chastain Gar rett, was a graduate of Hayes ville High School and worked for Weisinger Lumber Company of Ellijay, Ga. He had worked until 5 o'clock that day and was en- ' route home when the accident happened. Surviving in addition to his par ents are; his wife, Mrs. Edna Cross Garrett; two sons, Jerry and Johnny of the home; a daughter, Joan of the home; five sisters, Mrs- Edith Cody. Mrs Pearl Cross, Mrs. Ellen Carter, Mrs. Margaret Cheek and Miss Barbara Garrett of Hayesville, and five brothers, Bruce of Can ton, O., Omer Lee, George, Joe and R- L- of Hayesville.
