FORM - ITS CANDIDATES For Town Board FOR MAYOR For Town Board W. A. Singleton Cloe Moore Alvin Buchanan L. L. Mason I. Without prejudice, fear of criticism, or desire for per sonal gain, we pledge to the citizens of Murphy our time and our ability. We pledge on our honor, with God's help, to administer the government of this Town for the benefit of its citizens. II. We pledge a clean and lawful election. III. We Will Work and Stand For the Following: (1) A new sewage disposal system. (2) Better Police Protection. (3) Cleaner streets washed by mechanical equipment. (4) Continued sidewalk improvements. We intend to im prove all existing sidewalks and construct new side walks where needed. (5) Continued street paving until every street in Murphy is paved. (6) Continued proper maintenance of streets that are now paved. The following street repairs (after an unusually hard winter) have recently been contracted for $2,700.00: (a) CONAHETA STREET: Patching at Ball Park, New Pavement at Teague's & intersection Cona heta & Regal, patching at Timber Products. (b) ALPINE STREET: 285 feet long by 16 feet wide, 151 yards of new pavement. (c) WESTMORELAND AT ED HYDE'S: 210 ft. long by 15 ft. wide, new pavement, 350 sq. yds. (d) VALLEY RIVER AVE.: 400 ft. long by 16 ft. wide, 71 1 sq. yards new paving. (e) FORT BUTLER: 250 ft. long by 10 ft. wide, new pavement. (f) ALLEY AT ELLIOTT'S GARAGE: 235 ft. long, 12 ft. wide, 306 sq. yds. new paving. (g) ALLEY AT MOORE'S GARAGE: 150 ft. long by 12 ft. wide, 250 sq. yds. new paving. (.7) Continued support for recreation to meet the growing need by both young and old. (8) Continued support for our Public Library and encour agement of its expansion. (9) Continued care and upkeep of Sunset Cemetery, the Old Baptist Cemetery and Harshaw Chapel Cemetery without cost to owners. (10) NEW INDUSTRY. We will at all times support The Chamber of Commerce and promote the location of new industry in Murphy. (11) BETTER SCHOOLS. We believe we have already contributed greatly to the new high school by the con struction of 1,500 feet of new six inch water lines to the school. We will always place the welfare of the children first. (12) The development of the tourist trade is our major natural resource. We will continue our efforts to in crease tourist trade. (13) The beautification of our town, especially through useful assistance to the Garden Clubs of Murphy and to the Murphy Summer Recreation Board. (14) The opening of new streets where feasible (several have been opened already). (15) HIGHWAY SAFETY ? we abhor drag races and the horrors of death on the highway. We will do all that we possibly can to put a stop to fast and dangerous driving, and see that the safety laws are observed both inside and outside the city limits of Murphy. (16) City water and sewer systems for Texana. (17) NEW ROAD TO TELLICO, and positive promotion of the Tellico Wagon Train project. ( 18) INCREASED FIRE PROTECTION and more modern equipment. (19) SWIMMING POOL: We will cooperate in every pos sible way in the efficient operation of the new swim ming pool. We believe strongly in the expansion of the recreation program. We believe that a picnic area and provision for other types of recreation should be made available in the swimming pool area. We will work for the construction of a bath house, a kiddie pool and other improvements. Continued Progress in Year City Government Can be had only through the whole hearted cooperation of a competent governing body, the city employees, and yon. Express your desires and do your part as a citizen by casting your ballot and vote on May 6th for the party which yon know will best serve for the benefit of all the people.
