V-J Day ? 27 minutes, sound, black and white- August 14, 1945: Americans everywhere rejoice as war in the Pacific ends. i story It seems this girl was so cr-r-azy about the service she got from her Phillips 66 Dealer that she'd buy only one gallon of Flite-Fuel at a time : : : just so she'd have an excuse to come back oftener. It was rather trying for this Phillips 66 Dealer; considering all the free services he provides for every customer on every visit. Brushing out inside the car, for example. Geaning the windows all around. Checking the tires, battery, and radiator: It turned out just about as you'd expect. Such an obliging fellow, she decided, would be a handy man around the house. So she hooked him: Trouble is that Phillips 66 Dealers are so dedi cated to their jobs that household chores get short shrift: No moral here for wives: Obvious moral for motorists: Allison-Duncan Oil Co. Instructtions For "Freezing Vegetables'* A folder on Freezing Instructions for Vegetables has been received in the Home Agent's office. This information prepared by Miss Nita Orr, extension special ist in Food Conservation and Marketing, State College, provides us with the latest research avail able on this subject. With many more families ac quiring freezers each year it is important that they have the re commended methods for high quality products. Not all varieties of vegetables lend themselves to freezing- Some varieties are better for canning, some for freezing while some may be either canned or frozen. Few homemakers can afford to experiment so if you want to take advantage of research this infor mation is available. For a high quality product check these points: A variety that freez es well, just right to eat fresh, worked fast ( from the garden to the freezer), scalded (blanched) right, chilled quickly and thor oughly Set containers intended for freez ing (not milk cartons or other im provised containers), into freezer soon after packaging, frozen below 0"F, stored at 0?F or cooler until used, put to cook while frozen, cooked ? 'til just tender. Result: The best vegetables in the whole, wide world! MUSTARD SEEDS By REV. JAMES J. WILMES "The smallest ot all the seeds; but when it grows up, it is larger than any herb" ? Mt. 13: 31 UNSEEING EYES A blind man slowly turned the corner of a New York street, feel ing his way with his white cane A young man coming fromtthe op posite direction, dashed around the corner and collided with him. Both landed squarely on the pave ment- Why don't you look where you're going?" barked the hurried young man. "Why don't you go where you're looking?" gently re plied the blind man. Many times we fail to use the eyes God gave us, but more of ten we fail to use the spiritual vis ion He has given us. Our five sens es can be blinded by the distrac tions of the world around us and we forget that Jesus said,, "With THIS COUPON GOOD FOR 50 FREE HIGH VALUE TRADING STAMPS CLIP AND PRESENT TO GENE'S STORE RFD No. 3 Murphy, IV. If this be true, we should go to God as to a parent? with our joys, our successes and thanks as well as with our sorrows, troubles and desires. Instead many of us only think of God? as our doctor- -when something goes wrong. We are like the little boy whose grandfather asked if he said his prayers every night. "Oh, yes!" replied the boy. "And every morning?" asked his grandfather. "Why should I," asked the child. "I'm not scared in the daytime." So many of us only go to God when we are after something; yet we call Him, "Our Father," when we pray. But our parents like to be told often how good they are and how much we appreciate them- They want to be thanked. They look for an apology if we fail them. But they hate to be sought after only to be "sponged" upon. Our heavenly father is no different. And if we tell Him he is as gentle as our lamb, as powerful as the mountain; as welcome as the sun and as refreshing as the rain; if we adore Him so and thank Him often as well as apolo gize nightly for our failings, then we shall seldom have to beg fav ors for a loved parent is a loving parent and never outdone in gen erosity. RESOLUTION; Talk to God daily in our own words, using the key word ACTS as a guide for three minutes of each type of prayer pleasing to our Father: 3 minute ACT of A-doration; C-ontrition; T hanksgiving; Supplication (Peti tion). PRAYER: "Lord teach us how to pray." (Lk. 11, 1)) ) "See ye first the kingdom of God and His justice and all these things shall be added unto you." (Mt- 6, 33; Lk. 12, 31) and Mrs. J. E Gladson of Culber son, plans to attend the Atlanta Division of the University of Geor gia where she will major in busi ness.
