She will finish her senior high school year in Rorrn's Foundation School. Then she plans to enroll in the college, where she will major in mat hematic* and probably science. Miss Slagle completed three years of high school at Hiwassee Dam. She attended Ranger Ele mentary School. She has maintained an "A" av erage since her first grade in school. Herman Edwards, president nf I he CSierokee Rose Garden Club, has announced that the club is busy a firkin" on a larinscape plan as an enlry in a landscape contest. The contest is open to all bona fide garden clubs in North and South Carolina. Principal rules are In locate a house plan on a desig imted plot, plan and secure the floor plan to the location; plot driv es. screening wall, planters, pri vate areas, gardens, play areas and service areas: and design?ted location of all plants, both flowers and shrubbery, and trees and in >1 f.ve scientific and common names. First prize for the winning de si 11 submitted is $125: second pr e is $75 and third is $50. Legi bility and neatness are great fac tors in determining the winning plans. L.WO&n Mayes Reliruian Is Guest Speaker At Meeting Of R & PW Club Monday Mayes Behram Director o the Carolina's literacy movement by TV and director of the Literacy Center at .John C. Campbell Folk School, Rrasslown, was guest speaker at a meeting of the Mur phy Business and Professional Women's Club Monday night. He spoke on illiteracy over the nation and wha" is being done un der this pro-ram. The club voted to rive a full scholarship for one of the trainees. A group of trainees will he riven a teacher training course from Sept. 27-Ort lfi in preparation for the TV classes which will com mence on Jan. I. 1%0. All persons taking this instruction will be vol unteer teachers helping groups of nr.n-readers, in informal class rooms, understand what the TV teacher is saving. They will be taught the use of all materials necessary to teach these groups. The meeting was held at the Vil lage Restaurant at Hiwassee Ham. Mrs. Jaunita Weaver, president, conducted business.
