SMITH Aboat a year ago I mentioned is ? news column tut a ditching machine had beer stuck oa the farm of Bud Brown while the ope rator was digging a ditch for the installation of tile Last week Luke EUii and I had the same experi ence We got stuck while survey ing for a tile ditch on Noah Hem hree's (arm at Peachtree. It was the two of us that got stuck though and not a machine. Water standing in a low area Df his field, which was turned ?bout ten inches deep in the fall, lad made a large area of mud. By the time our feet had settled to the bottom of the mud and ?re resting on hard dirt below plow - depth, we were up to out taot tops in mud and water. Aft er standing still for a few minutes while we set grade stakes, it was i real effort to pull our feet out of the mud without leaving our boots n the mud. If either of us had fallen down. I'm sure the other would have had to go for help to ;et that one back out of the mud jnto solid ground. If you happen ;o be passing by the Hembree [arm on Highway 64 at the Mis sion Road, take a look at the field as it is now and then look at it again when the tile is installed. You will undoubtedly see a big lifference. Noah told me recently that he lad lost between three quarters and an acre of corn or soybeans n this spot every year that he nad it in cultivation.
