She has been county dress winner for the post two years, county clothing winner two years, outstanding 4-H girl for 1958, 1959. Jerry Henson Enjoys 4-H Work By JERRY HKNSON Vic? President Count* Council The 4-H Club gives me a chance to work at the things I like to do. It teaches me the right way to do things, such as raising a calf, which is my present major project. It teaches how to feed and care for and show livestock. though sometimes through trial and error. It has projects for tun and ior making money. In it, I learn about people from different parts of ihe state and country. It teaches how to conduct meet ings in a way as to get something done. It gives me -something to do when I otherwise would be idle. 1 have fun in the 4-H Club too. 1 go to camps in the summer where I have fun swimming and playing and learning new things. I go on hiking trips and cook outs and picnics. 1 have tun going to club meetings and discussing projects and problems. 1 have fun at home working on my pro jects and things for myself and the club. Leader Comments On Advantages Of 4-H By MRS. ADDILEE B. BROWN 4-H club work gives the child ren in schools advantages the) would not otherwise get. Our children learn to nominate and elect their own officers. The> learn to put ? mot too before their club correctly . With the help of their teachers and 4-H leaders they plan their owti programs They preside over their meetings and keep an accurate record of all 4-H work which will certainly help them in club work in the future. The 4-H leaders give them good training in parliamentary procedure. Our children have learned a great deal about the wild life in North Carolina. They have learned to care for and protect the wild life in our state. In the December meeting the '4-H agents taught the children | how to make their own Christmas decorations and how to make can diet. The children enjoyed their demonstrations very much and learned to do some of the things 1 for themselves rather than buying them. Good manners are important to children and the 4-H agents have1 helped our children to be more polite and they have improved i their manners. Help from the 4 H workers, help from the home, and help from school, in man ners is so necessary. Another stud> the children en ! joyed was the demonstration on !eggs. They learned how to cart j for them, the value of eggs, and 1 how to prepare them. ! Cleanliness around the home, iwe all know, is of great import ance to children. They learn to clean their own rooms, keep the yard and home surroundings clean and attractive. Our children need to have much training and in-: st ruction along this line. When; children learn to appreciate clean attractive surrounding while young i there is a carry over for adult Our children have studied in 4 H club meetings Health Problems and bow to wive them. They have had instructions in good grooming and perianal appearance Those are necessary helps if our chil dren choose for the mat Ives the proper kinds of clothing. The children have had good les sons not only on being courteous and polite bui also a good lesson 4-H'ers Look To The Future ! By JOHN VAN HORN, PresMentj 4-H County Council I have been in the 4-h club for four years and 1 believe that it; is one of the best organizations in North Carolina and in the United States. The 4-H Club gives every boy and girl the chancc to be a leader in his own community. The 4-H. Club also has achievement for) these 4-H leaders of tomorrow Tomorrow is what the 4-H boys' and girls look forward to. We sometimes look back to the past but tomorrow is what the 4-H'ers are training for. The 4-H club consists of clothing and home improvement for the girls and tobacco and cattle for the boys which are only a few of the many subjects in the advanced 4-H program The 4-H club in North Carolina is St years old. The past is glorious, ves. but; the future is even brighter The 4-H club has many activi ties such as: 4-H camp. Rally Days, annual achievement night, and to climax it all. is State 4-H Club Week and National 4-H Club1 Week. Remember the 4-H Club isi not just a nam? but hoys and girls, volunteer leaders and agents who "Strive to Make the Best Better." I I on table manners There was a; carry over from the 4-H club i nceung to our lunchroom We could tail a different* in the table manners when all of us were l teaching the same thing. The cooperation among teachers and 4-H workers has teen good, and that is why our 4-H clubs can do a good job with our chil dren. The 4-H camp has also been an asset to our school. Some of our children have gone to camp who never would have had the oppor tunity to do so except for 4-H work they completed. Our P.T.A. and schools sends an ambitious 4-H'er each year to 4-H camp. The children return much mora enlightened and ambitious for a batter club and to be a much better member the next year. We have sent from our school one, two. or three children to camp for the last years. Our hats are off to the 4-H workers for the nice job and work done with our children in our schools. Wc do appreciate their hard planning, hard work, and efforts. The result is belter train ed. better prepared and more am bitious children. World Prayer Day To Be Observed In Andrews Andrews ?
