Alcoholics Anonymous Forms Murphy Group On Thunday evening, May 5th. the Franklin group of Alcoholic* Anonymous aponsored aa opes meeting" in Murphy to acquaint the area wth the disease of alco holism. Aa 'open meeting " i* one which anyone in tha com m unity may attend Two guest speakers described the part alco hol had played in their lives; how they knew they had the disease when they realized they had lost control of their drinking even when faced with loss of family, job and the like: how the A.A. program has changed their lives and given them more happiness in a few years than they had ever known. After the meeting, a Murphy group was formed. It was decid ed that until further notice, all meetings would be 'open meet ings", opened to anyone who wishes to attend, alcoholic or not. They shall be held every Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the new Regal Hotel, on the square in Murphy, N. C. All are invited to come weekly, either alone or with your friends, to better understand this illness, and to help build a bridge of understanding between I I N. C. THUR. 12 ? He had worked for the Regal Hotel' for about 33 years and the Savage Hotel for 13 years. He had worked 28 years at the old Bank of Murphy and also for the Citizens Bank and Trust Co. He was born in Clay County and later lived in Towns County, Ga., be fore moving to Murphy.
