Rescue Squad Planned j For Cherokee County Futile efforts to recover the; body of a man believed to have drowned on Hiwassee Lake~has resulted in a concerted drive by Cherokee County residents to form a volunteer a rescue squad. A meeting is scheduled in Mur phy Thursday and formal action to organize may be taken at that time. To be call?d Cherokee County i Rescue Squad, it would be called into action at any time for a mission of mercy, to aid in event of disaster or accident where life is endangered, t i Interested citizens started the move after Kr*d Honeycutt of BurnsvUle, N. C . disappeared. Rescue squads mere called from adjoining counties to search Hi- 1 wasses Lake since Cherokee has no such organization. The search finally was abandoned after all recovery efforts failed. A proposed constitution for Cherokee County Rescue Squad' has been drawn up and action on this may be taken at Thursday's; meeting. When formed, the organization, will set about to obtain full rescue; equipment. Members of the squad will be limited to Cherokee County resi dents who are 21 years of age or older. The unit will be headed by a captain, assisted by lieutenants and sargeants. The constitution points out that the new organization would hold regular training sessions and that members would wear uniform!. At left is Jock Dickey, co-chairman of Wagon Train. Train Slated To Arrive Here Monday Wagon Train, one of the high lights of the year in this area, will begin rolling toward Murphy Sunday. The third annual event, this year's spectacular promises to be the largest ever staged. Covered wagons and horsemen from TeUico Plains. Tenn.. will begin the 45-mile trek to Cherokee County before daybreak Sunday. Purpose of the event is to focus attention on the need of develop ing to its full tourist potential the mountain area lying between Tellico Plains and Murphy. Nearly all of the picturesque area lies in the Cherokee National For est and the Natahala National Forest. Many persons plan a great part of the year for Wagon Train, outfitting wagons and getting to gether their colorful frontier cost umes. ' "Miss Wagon Train of 1960" will be crowned during the fes tive occasion and "Miss Junior Wagon Train of 1960" also will be named. This will take place Monday afternoon at 5:30 in Murphy. The Wagon Train is expected to reach Murphy some time in the afternoon next Monday. Sunday will see religious ser vices at alt local churches in the morning followed by recreat ion in the afternoon. i Monday will be the big day I with water sports, parades, square dancing and the beauty contest scheduled.
