Blood Mobile, held at the City
Hall, Tuesday Aug. 9th, 50 pint*
of blood were donated by area
citizens.
Local doctors and nurses and
volunteer workers assisted at the
blood drive. Red Cross workers
from Asheville were also present.

Gernert will join the Wagon Train
of Young Harris Ga. Sept. 1
and journey with them to the top
of Brasstown Bald, the highest
peak in Georgia.
They will make the trip with
two covered wagons and two rid
ers.
The wagon train will leave
Brasstown Bald Sept. 3 and is
expected to reach Young Harris
around noon Sept. 4, a distance
of approximately 10 miles.
The group will be present at
the horse show at 1 P.M. in
Young Harris, Ga.
Boy Suffers
Mishap
At New House
Glen Hampton, 14, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert Hampton of
Murphy, suffered a fractured
skull when he fell from a door
way into the basement of ? new
house under construction.
The boy visiting relatives who
live west of Murphy. The boy
went with his uncle to aee a new
house under construction (earby.
The boy opened the door to the
basement of the house and fell
to the ground below, a distance
of MO feet. Hie stairs to the
basement had not been placed.

meeting of the W.M.S. of the
First Baptist Church met Thurs
day at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Mavis Harris, president,
presided.
Mrs. Daisy Seay read the min
utes and gave the treasurer's re
port.
"Japanese Dish-Garden Dis
play" was the topic of the pro
gram. Those taking part were
Mrs. James Harris, Mrs. David
Hogan. Miss Trilby Glenn, Mrs.
Faye Sherrill and Mrs. Fred
McGuire.
Hie program was closed by the
group singing, "Sweet Peace, the
Gift of God's Love."

gro first grader was assigned to
a predominately white grammar
school here Tuesday, but applica
tions for three other Negro child
ren to white schools were rejected.
Kenneth Alexander, 6-year-old
son of Mr. and Mrs. George Alex
ander Jr.. was assigned to the
Bethune school.
One school board member com
mented that the boy "practically
lives next door to the school."
Kenneth is the second Negro as
signed to predominately white
schools for the fall term. The oth
er is Delores Wstermann, who
will be a senior at Garlnper High
School which she attend*) last
