We use all of our means and ability to overcome the big obstacle. But the real threat to our health and frJr.^.,.V0n.t0 our 50111 comes i from the little things One of the little foxes that is destroying the influence of the inavidual Christian today is hypo Hypocrisy i0 any is had. It w bad when we pretend to be better than we are. Bu! the most destructive hypocrisy of oday is pretending to be worse h an we are. It is the hypocrisy nrnLT'3, ^ "S give outward ap proval to action and activities that we cannot accept inwardly If we are with a crowd, no wants to be the "odd ball' so everyone goes along. A few months ago nine boys ? j town broke out 300 TK^?WLm ' new scho?1 building. ,h. ,i b?,sLcame fr?n some of the finest homes in the town Before they were tried tte judge had an outstanding psychologic interview each of !omL ? ref>0rted that not ?ne jof the boys approved the action jof the group. But every single toy expressed that firm convictton g* he was the only one ? group who felt that way Each boy thought that all the 0l?r boys felt that their action was nght. TJeir group commuted a F "0ne 0f them aP" KVeO'0DC 01 con Pretending to be worse than he was. I w symbolic of our uhe Uttle rox of , hypocrisy makes an Peopte afraid to speak up, afraid to stand with hearts unco wed for the right. Another little fox that destroys ?"r *>?< * the refusal tofook nK- iy' the refusal to look usJeWet?aL'he wor,d about k' be surprised at the absurdity of our fears and resent mente when we face them square ly. We transfer our resentments from one thing to another. We don't like the party in control so everything they do is wrong, but when our party advocates the same thing it is pust fine. We are envious of our successful competitor so we refuse to go along with any project he sup ports. A Baptist minister, Dr. Carlyle Maraey, tells how his neighbor's fox terrier and shephand dog would chase his car down the street. He tried to find a reason. He had never mistreated the dogs. He got along fine with their owner. His car was no more noisy than the others. Then he found out. He owned a big red setter. The fox terrier and shep herd dogs could not handle his big red setter, so they took their resentment out on his car. We often use innocent people as scapegoats for our feelings. A student doesn't like his math teacher, so he develops a dislike for mathematics. He likes his history teacher so he develops a liking for history. We will be surprised if we look objectively at the things which disturb us most. Things are not always what they appear to be. Another little fox that destr our spiritual effectiveness is practice of running from our selves. Our generation has de veloped shock treatment, trait quilixers and television to drowi our troubles. How long has it been since you meditated of spiritual truths of fifteen minutest When we have any leisure tim< the common practice is to tun on the television or take a drive We cannot face or will not fa? our innermost thoughts* so w< run from ourselves. Numbers of men try to drowr themselves in their occupation They burn the candle at boil ends. Their jobs become not only their means of livelihood, bul their life. They give their bodiet to be burned upon the alter ol their own achievement. We arc continually outrunning ourselves running past the very things thai make life worthwhile. We denj our family their due time. Wc are too busy to have time foi the church. However the trw reason is that we are afraid tc face ourselves. These are a few of the littli foxes that eat away the foundatkx of our existence. Insignificant fac tors, all of them, and yet vitallj important in terms of the destruc tion they bring.
