All enjoyed hiving the Mom Quar tet from Hiwassee. Mrs. Betty Wilson spent Sunday night with her son, Silas, and all gathered for a fellowship meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Her man Jordan. Mrs. Ernest Kilpatrick and Mrs. Harry Rich were the Tuesday guests of Mrs. Her man Jordan. The' third Sunday Singing was held at Vengeance Creek Church on Sunday. Glad to have the trio from Robbinsville with us at Hyatts Creek. They are Mr.andMrs, Calvert and helpers. Sorry to give up our neigh bors. Mrs. Evelyn West and family who left us to join her husband who has employment in Alabama. Mrs. Mamie Rich and Mrs, Lee Gibby visited with Mrs. Don Cook one day last week. Sgr. Jerry W. Edwards of the I). S. Army has reported for duty in The Panama Canal Zone, where he will be sta tioned for three years. Sgt. Sims Enrolls At University Of Tennessee Ray Sims h*s enrolled In thi Junior Clas* of the Uni versity of Tennessee. He has completed two years at Mars Hill College, and has served two years In the Army. Sims, the son of Mrs. Leija Sims and the late Mr. Paul Slma, is an acdve member o ( the First Baptist Church and has been a participant in local civic affairs. P-TA Hear* Program On Highway Safety Murphy P. T. A. members heard a spirited panel dis cussion on "Highway Safety" Monday night at the Septem ber meeting of the organi zation. Further education (or the drivers, law enforcement, the best road engineering, re striction on advertising in re gard to speed, and increased sense of responsibility were pointed out as means for protection of people upon the roads. Taking part in the panel were: John J. Jordan, ele mentary school principal, moderator, Patrolman Hoo per, Mrs. W. T. Brown, Miss Anne Bruce, Mrs. J. H.Dun can, Phil Mattox, and Walter Puett, high school principal. Mrs. George Dyer is membership chairman for the year, President Robert D. Bruce announced; Mrs. Hobarc McKeever, program; andMrs. * Calvin Styles, grade mother. Other Committee chairmen announced by Mr. Bruce are: budget and finance, John Gill; health. Dr. Breece Breland; hospitality, Mrs. W.T.Brown; legislation, Mrs. Ralph Rhodes; publicity, Robert A. Potter; ways and means, Mrs. ZebChastain. Mauney Enters Second Year Of Medical School CHAPEL HILL - Wilier F. Mauney, son of Mr, and Mrs. W. M. Mainey of Val ley River Avenue. Murphy, N. C. 1* -enrolled in the Uni versity of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill. I Mauney attended high school at Murphy. His pre-medical work was done at UNC. The four year program of the School of Medicine leads to a degree of doctor of med icine. Mauney is now in his 2nd year of the course. He is scheduled tp graduate in June, 1963, Methodist Plan Worker's\ Conference A Worker's Conference will be held Tuesday, ">ept. 27, at 7:30 p. m. at the First Metho dist Church, .for all teachers f and officers. October 9 will be Rally Day and Promotion Sunday in the Sunday School. There will be a special program at the open ing service. ELISHA' PAYNE Elisha Payne, 7ft, of Mur phy, Rt. 4, died in a hospital at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, after a long illness. Surviving are the widow, Mrs, Mary Hamby Payne; three daughters, Mrs. Clara Linderman of Knoxville, and Miss Lou Bette Payne, and Mrs. Maunda Ledford of Mur phy, Rt. 4; a son, Cubie, of Farner, Tenn.: a brother, John of Hiwassee Dam; 14 grand children; and three great grandchildren. Services were held Wed nesday at 3:00 p.m. in O greeta Baptist Church. The Rev. Willard Graham officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. C? a nat ive of Graham County, died in a Washington hospital on Thursday, September 15, after a long illness. Mrs. Nesline was born In Robbinsville, a daughter of the late John and Frankie Elizabeth Hyde Brooks, mem bers of a pioneer Graham County family. She had lived in Washington for the past 25 years.
