Rt. 3, Murphy. ? DEAR SALLY: Our father who was a widower, recently remarried. Both my sister and I (both of us married) are very fond of our father's new wife, but we're always uncertain as to just how to introduce her to our friends. We feel that calling her "mother" is not correct, and speaking of her as "our father*s wife" sounds cold and impersonal. Please, will you advise us on this? THE' DAUGHTERS. DEAR DAUGHTERS: I a gree with you, the term "mother" Is not right, and "our father's wife" seems cold, especially since there is a bond of affection between you and this lady. She is, after all, your stepmother, even though you and your sis ter are mature. I think it would be nice to introduce her that way. You probably call her by her first name, so you could say, "Mary, our new stepmother, of whom we are all so fond," or some thing like this, which would indicate your gracious ac ceptance of her. ???????? DEAR SALLY: I'm in a spoil I'm wondering if a man can still be considered a gendeman If he breaks his engagement to a girl. Before we became engaged. I thought this girl was wonderful and fine In every way, but since the announcement she has as sumed a proprietory attitude towards me, has become nag ging and shrewish, and un reasonable la her demands. If she's like this now, how will she be after we're mar ried? I realize I'm not the perfect man, and I'm not look ing for absolute perfection in (he girl I marry ? but this situation la raptdy becoming more than 1 can take, and I'd like ? get out of lb But how? RIP. OUR MP: A man breaks and she are not at all suited for each other. And, no matter how disagreeable this chore may seem to you now. It is far, far better to have a bro ken engagement now than a broken home later. ???????? DEAR SALLY: We're hav ing a little trougle with our next - door neighbors. They built a fence along the property line between us, to prevent our kids from running onto their lawn, and then they plant ed hugh rosebushed along this fence. These bushes have grown so large that they haag way over our driveway, and we have the greatest trouble mowing the strip of grass between our driveway and the fence, and the thorns whip into the windows of our car as we drive in or back out. I have a couple of cuts on my arm and one on my fore head to prove It. We've asked them to trim these bushes, but they say this would ruin the bushes? -and when we threat ened ? trim them ourselves, they said they sould sue us since the bushes are their property. Do you have any solution? JONESY. DEAR JONESY: You have a perfectly legal right to trim any part of those bushes that extends over your property. Anything on your side of the fence belongs to you. ???????? TO TROUBLED PARENTS There's really not much you can do for a 24 - year - old' daughter who thinks she knows all the answers and refuses V listen to her parent*. And Sftar all. she Is pest the age of consent. It's heartbreaking, 1 knew, ? see someone you love heading for the reefs, but some people must learn everything through Utter ex jggaahjr evl table stem. I'm Sure you can help her then.
