Tay lor Monday. February h, wax reelected for a two-vear term as a member of the important House Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs. By his reelection, the 12th Congressional District repre sentative was elevated In sen iorlty to the 12th position among IS Democrats serving on the J2 member Interior body . Taylor's gain in seniority was a direct result of his elrction last summer to com plete the unexpired term of the late Rep. David M. Hall of Sylva and his subsequent appointment to the committee. Since then, Taylor said, a number of Congressmen have left the committee o accept cabinet and other posts, other committeeships, or because they were not reelected last November. "These vacancies have en abled me to move up six places in seniority," Taylor said. He counted this as par ncularly significant because the Interior and Insular Af fairs Committee supervises operation of the C.reat Smokv Mountains National I'ark. Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherokee Lnd ian Reservation, and also handles appropriations for and a portion of the administrative control of National Forests. "I am delighted to continue on this important committee, because of the excellent posi Hon It places me In to serve Western North Carolina " Taylor said. 1 The Chorotoo Scout. Thurs.. Feb. 16.
