South Carolina potiltryman
raises pullets for $1.06,
total cost, on Purina
Bill Westmoreland, Checkerboard Serviceman, and James
Sietare are pleated with the condition of one of the the well
developed Sietare pullet*.
James Sistare. Lancaster. S. C., is no more asy to please
than any poultryman who's looking for good pullets at low
cost to put into production. Sistare is mighty happy with
his last batch of 985 pullets. He raised them on the Purine
Controlled Program and his total cost for chicks, feed pn?i
sanitation to 21 weeks was only $1.06 per bii-d.
Sistare 's chick cost was 30.5* each ... so that me his
total cost for Purina Chows and Sanitation Prod' was
just 75.5* per bird.
In addition, Sistare had 98', livability to 27 week*., ?hich
proves he follows a good management program along with
his low-cost, top-quality feeding program.
Sistare is in his second year with his present poultry oper
ation of 1,000 layers. The first year he fed another brand
of feed.
"But somehow they didn't do right," says Sistare. "I tried
Purina and have been on it ever since. I've been averaging
a dozen eggs on 3.5 to 4.0 pounds of Purina Laying Rations.
You can guess that I'm well pleased with my results."

Kill flies 4 ways with
Purina Fly Bait, sprays
Flies are bound to be your most
costly problem this summer. They
annoy cattle and hogs, cut feedlot
gains and milk production, spread
dangerous disease germs around
poultry and livestock. It's impor
tant to use a combination o( Purina
fly killers to fight these insect pests.
PURINA FLY BAIT? Just scatter
this dry killer in alleyways, on
window sills, near manure piles,
and wherever flies gather.
PURINA MALATHION or DIAZINON
SPRAY ? These powerful residual
insecticides give long-lasting con
trol when sprayed on buildings.
PURINA INSECTICIDE MIST? When
flies are really heavy, spray inside
your barn or poultry house with
this Purina Health Aid.
PURINA DUSTS awl SPRAYS? Pro
tect your poultry or livestock with
low-co?*. easy-to-use dusts and
sprays from Purina Research.
Now is the time to get started on
a complete fly control program.
Let us help fill your ifly control
needs this spring.
Science is working hard at

Science is working hard for you at
Purina's modern, newly enlarged
laboratories at Checkerboard
Square, St. Louis. Each Month
some 25.000 quality-control tests
are run on hundreds of ingredients
and chemicals used in today's com
plex feed formulas. F.. acting utd
time-consuming, yes . but such
work by Purina's dedicated team
of scientists is one of the underly
ing reasons why Purina has led the
way in better feeding methods for
M years.
Purina doesn't believe in experi
menting with you, the customer.
That's why its laboratory facilities
were recently doubled in size . . .
to better assure you of top-quality
ingredients and precision-formu
lated Chows worthy of the Check

at which time Paul Nave,
Cherokee County Farm Agent,
presented a program on pro

stressed in the program was to

being done locally all the time.
Mr. Nave pointed out that this
unbalances the tree's root

gets in the newly cut portion
of the tree; and the tree even
