READY FOR BEARD CONTEST, Garnet Johnson, Shorty Pra ley, China Garrett (front) and Willis Moore and Charlie Wheeler. Centennial Chatter By Mrs. Quentin Moore Everyone in Clay County is having a part in the Centennial celebration. Saturday the county canines were pre sented. There were some handsome dogs parading in the show ring on the courthouse square. One of the biggets hits was the litter of beagle pups which accompanied the mother beagle, a contestant. Thepet's class was popular with the children who led their dogs around proudly, (or the dogs led the children. In some casesl) Centennial Sunday proved to be another Interesting exper ience In our countys cele bration. Reports from several churches showed that most of the congregations were dressed in their Centennial best. At least one man re ceived a top hat for a Fathers Day present and wore it to church. There were thoughts about the church services 100 years ago. Folks were singing the same hymns then that we all did Sunday. And no doubt the prayers were for peace too. Quite a group of local people donned thelrCentennial outfits Monday afternoon and gather ed around the courthouse lawn while John P arris, Ashevllle Citizen columnist, tookphoto graphs and collected local color for his paper. The pic tures should be In Sunday's Issue. Clay County's birthday will be notedl , Understand there will be a first aid stadon set up In the courthouse, July 1. Our public health nurse will be in charge. It will also be a lost and found center for the inevitable child ren and articles which get misplaced In a large crowd of people such as there'll be In town that day. A good service! Now the final and busy week ending the Centennial Is coming up. BeglnnlpgSaturday night with the Centennial square dance, there'll be a round of activities for every one. Next week will be the fashion show, and beard con test, the beauty contest and talent show, the fireworks and antiques displays, the BlgOay Saturday, and lasdy, the union church service on the square on Sunday afternoon, July 2. Hope everyone will be able to go to each event and wish Utile old ClayCountyaHappyBlrth dayl Don't forget to get a Clay County History booklet.'
