Pembroke VFW News Monroe Lowry, Post Commander Locklear ? Lowry VFW Post 2843 of Pembroke met Monday at 7 M p> at. for their regular monthly meeting with a enjoyed prior to the meeting with filly member* of the Poet and A axillary preeent. A joint meeting of the VFW and Ladies Auxiliary was held for the purpoae of Mr. Wade H. K inlaw, Veterans Affairs Employment Officer of Lumberton explaining the benefits available to Veterans and the work done through his office. VFW Post 2843 was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the VA Hospital in Fayettcviile for Volunteer Service to ' the Veterans of the VA Hospital. Also, Josh Locklear, Hospital Chairman, received a letter of appreciation from the VA Chaplain for his faithful service rendered to the VA Hospital by providing gospel singing for the patients. Comrades sick or in distress are: Furnie Barton, World War I and also the eldest Hunt; ffartb Carter; Datra Hammoods; and Carney Buttard. New Recruits inducted into the pa* were as follows: William R. Bryant; James Dial; Robert W. Jones; Richard Cum mines; Datra Hammonds; Ralph Lindsey; Hariie Carter; Kenneth Hunt and David M. Sealey. The post voted and went on record as being opposed to the Panama" Canal Treaty as proposed by President Jimmy Carter and his Administration. The following petition was sent to the President and also two members of the U.S. Senate of North Carolina: Resolved to: (A) United Stales Operation, Control and Defense of the Panama .Canal are non-negotiable. (B) The proposed Panama Treaty being put forward by the Carter Administration be defeated in the . 95th Congress. Other items of interest were as follow*: 8th District meeting. 1:00 p.m. October 23 at the Spring Lake Post. Spring Lake. NC. Veterans Day Parade, and fish fry November 11.1977 at 10 a.m. Fish Fry begins at II am. . until 7 p.m. at the VFW Post Home. Union Chapel Road.
