by HaHte W?| I11M1 i, Jr.
Christmas is the most joyous
time of the year. And rightful
ly so. because it honors the
birth of Christ. It is a time for
worship, and a time for giving.
In years past, the Brother
hood of the Ml. Airy Com
munity his given out fruit
baskets to our senior citizens
and to the ones who are in the
extended care unit at South
eastern General Hospital. This
year, the Brotherhood, and the
Jaycees joined together to give
out the fruit baskets; and it ?
went off really well. We gave
out 41 fruit baskets to senior
citizens in and around the Mt.
Airy Community. We carried
76 baskets to the extended
care unit at Southeastern
General Hospital. We bagged
the fruit up the Thursday night
before Christmas and deliver
ed it the Friday night before
Christmas. It gave the ones
who delivered the fruit a great
feeling. We were especially
glad to be able to join with the
Brotherhood in giving out the
baskets. We also gave toys to
some needy kids.
The Jaycees, who took part in
carrying inc trail ui uur senior
citizen*, were Mr. Tniman
Carter. George L. Locklear.
Terry Locklear. and Mr. Far
nie Barton. Jr. Member* of the
Brotherhood alio helped.
The Jaycee* got together
Christina* Eve and had the
drawing for the shotgun that
waa raffled off. The winner
was Mr. Bruce B. Jones. He is
the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Donald G. Jones of Pem
broke. N.C. Bruce is 8 years
old. His father had bought 3
tickets. Congratulations.
Bruce!
Before the drawing. Mr.
Carson Maynor played Santa
Claus for the kids. They really
enjoyed it. After the draw
ing. a small social was held.
-A gift of S5.00 was
given to each child at the
Odum Home in Pembroke. We
hope each and every one of
you had a wonderful Christ
mas. It made us feel very good
to be able to help someone at
Christmas. And we wish every
one a year filled with joy. love,
and. most of all. peace
throughout the world.
