J Mate a Owvto The late Leonard Locklear family held its annual New Year's Eve's family reunion Wednesday evening, Decem ber 31, 1980 in the home at Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Lock lear at Route 2, Maiton. Last year all of the ten children were present, but this time the family was not as fortunate. Mrs. Bonnie Jack son of Columbia, Ohio could not attend due to sickness and snowy weather. Clarence of Shannon was not present due to sickness having been home only a few days from South eastern General Hospital, Lumberton. Burlin and Vardell were absent due to sickness also. The six that were more fortunate and present, inclu ding Spencer, were Mrs. Stella' Locklear of Shannon. Mrs. Bernice Locklear of Red Springs, Miss Lester Locklear of Route 2, Maxton. Miss Georgia Locklear and Dr. Jessie B. Chavis cf Pembroke. Others attending were some of the grandchildren, relatives and friends and those travel ing the farthest to be present with the family celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Locklear of Columbus. Ohio and Mrs. Margie Locklear and husband of Detroit. Mich. The family entertained each other by reminiscing, telling jokes, having plenty of laugh ter and singing gospel songs. Everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner, served buffet style, near the hour of nine o'clock. After everyone enjoyed the meal as well as the warm fellowship together, they re turned back to the living room for more gospel singing, con sisting of the family and friends. At 11:50 Dr. Chavis called the group to form a_prayer circle, a custom for the last years. 1981 arrived before the prayers were completed and at the end of the last prayer, the group joined together in singing "Auld Lang Syne" led by Dr. Chavis. After wishing each other a "Happy New Year" the group retired for the night. V OntauetfTo I J Tht Best In | FARM FOR SALE J | 18.06 Acres ) / (15 Acres Cropland) / } 10,268 lbs.
