(The Rain Maker) Visits Pembroke Rev. John F. Skierski (the fain-maker) is visiting in the Pembroke area. This is his first visit in 27 years. During his visit 27 years ago he held a tent revival and was a friend of the late Rev. Roy Maynor. The Rain Maker is a Dowser- Diviner. He says that the 5000 year old Indian mystery of divining helps him to find water basins, oil, minerals, gold, silver, miss ing or buried monies and also to solve mysteries by the Spirit of God. He claims to be able to find water from below and above. He carries a scrapbook of articles written about him in various states and countries he has visited and helped to relieve droughts, etc. Skierski of the Cherokee Nation is from Groton, Conn, and will be in the area for one week only. Anyone interested in his services may call him at 738-6983 after 4 p.m. and leave their number. He will return the call. Skierski is assisting a fam ily in the area in solving a murder mystery. "Some peo ple call me a physic," he said. "I can pick up vibrations and help people solve mysteries, but I only solve mysteries by the spirit of God." (Matk 1 WE WORK FOR YOU! ? BROOKS RESPONDS known as "Old Main" on the campus of Pembroke State University was saved for posterity by such a group. The "breaking" or elimination of the nefari ous former "double-voting" system for the county school board was accomplish ed by the courage and toil of another such organization. Only after another such group forced the issue in '75 were our county commissioners districts reap portioned so as to provide more equitable representation for Indian people. More recently, another such group caused the splitting of the Lumberton commissioner district in order to protect the voting rights of blacks as well as Indians. We submit that the majority of the people of our county wholeheartedly approve of the aforerecited changes, and that the progress in their wake has benefited all of the people of Robeson as well. Lest we be misunderstood in the matter, however, let us state without hesitation or equivocation that if being labeled as a "dissident" is the price that one must pay for such progress, then it is a very small price indeed. We are also proud to claim some small role in the formulation of Lumbee River Legal Services over the objections of many of the members of the local bar such as yourself. Let the word be spread throughout the land that quality legal services are now available to even those applicants with causes which happen to be unpopular in some quarters. It-is our considered opinion that you owe a public apology, not only to myself and the entire staff of our legal services program, but also to all of those parents concerned with the quality of education available to their young who are supporting the pending voting right litigation. It is my further considered opinion that such an apology should also be forthcoming from the Lumberton Board of Education as an attorney is I presumed to speak for in behalf of his i client until the contrary has been demonstrated. Failing such an apology, in the future if and when you speak about myself or our legal services program in such a fashion, then you should at least have the courage or decency to notify us in advance so that we may be present to defend ourselves. Lest we be mistaken, let us make ourselves perfectly clear: We are prepared to publically debate you on these issues anytime, anyplace, any where. You may even take all of the time that you need to draw a crowd if such is your desire. If, however, the Lumberton Board of Education is sincerely interest ed in resolving a very serious problem, then the members thereof should demonstrate their sincerity by entering into negotiations with the concerned parent groups.
