Chairman of the Vocational
Education Committe, introdu
ced Stacey Locklear, PricipaJ
of Hilly Branch Vocational
School, who described the
program at that school. Mr.
Locklear has been active in
the field of Education and
received his Master's degree
from Western Carolina Uni

The history of Hilly Branch
Vocational Center began
twelve years ago in 1970 with
a study analysis. In 1976 a
study conducted by Mr. Mil
ton Brecher recommended
vocational programs for two
centers in the County. This
was followed by independent
studies by the Superintendent
of the County Schools. Four
years ago (1978) the Elemen
tary School at Hilly Branch
was renovated to accommo
date the present Vocational
School. The School enrolls
Junior and Senior High School
students whose interests are
in vocational training rather
than pre-college preparation
and presently there are 370
students learning skills in
such areas as welding, auto
motive mechanics, plumbing,
carpentry, food preparation
etc. Courses in English,
Advanced Mathematics, and
Calculus are also offered and
82 students are also taking
these courses. The placement
percentage for the graduates
of this program is 88%.
Questions and answers con
cerning the school followed
Mr. Locklear's presentation.
President John L. Carter
presided at the meeting and
Theodore Maynor gave the
invocation. Singing was led
by Lankford Godwin.
President Carter welcomed
Bill Oxendine into Kiwanis
membership and presented
his pin.
Lt. Governor Len Law son of

In
Remembrance
of my
Father
Rudolph fnwirr? - '
In remembrmnce of Rudolph
Sampson who deported this
life March 9, 1981.
We have lost the one wd
love; but he is only gone
above. We know it is for the
best that God has laid you
down to test. We cannot say
and I will not say that you are
dead. You are just away. For
one who loved my father on
earth we are sorry we lost
him. but in heaven we'll meet
again. I hope that each and
everyone who loves you will
accept that God loved you
best. Even though you are
safe and sound it is very
lonely without you around.
We shall be thinking of you
and your love that you really
gave us. While we bear this
grief and pain it will still be in
our hearts to remember your
precious love that you gave as
today one year ago. Good bye
Daddy because we all love you
dear.
With all my love. Dad
