' ? * Domestic Violence topic at Pembroke Kiwanis Meeting Left to rightt Theodore May Lynn TaDey, Speaker. Pembroke Kiwanis met at the Town and Country Rest aurant Tuesday evening with Theodore Maynor, Program Chairman, who introduced Miss Diane Phillips and Mrs. Lynn Talley who presented a program on Domestic Vio lence. Miss Phillips has been in Pembroke for two years in the legal services department in Robeson County and Mrs. Talley is with the Robeson County Committee on Domes- i tic Violence located at 210 East 15tH Street in Lumberton Women needing assistance should call Mrs. Talley at 739-8622. A film entitled "Battered Women Behind Cosed Doors" was shown. Counse ling services are available and reccommended for both the wife and husband. Funding for this service is provided by" the National United Metho dist Church. Guest at the meeting was Dr. Karl Scheele, . former professor at PSU and member of Pembroke Kiwanis who presently lives in Germany and teaches during the sum mer Sessions at Schiller Uni versity. John L. Carter presided at the meeting, Gibson Gray gave the invocation, and Lankford Godwin was thet Song Leader. Lankford Godwin announ ced a Gospel Sing to be held at Cherokee Chapel on April Alexandre M. Haig Jr. Secretary of State: "The charge that we are not interested in arms control or that we have cut off communications with the Soviets on these issues is simply not true." Murry L. Wiedenbaum, chairman. Council of Economic Advisers: "We expect a spongy economy in the near term ...but a gradual pickup as 1982 unfolds."
