see a pole-setting and climb
ing demonstration put on by
linemen from Lumbee River

ration here Friday morning.

the history of rural electrifica
tion and safety tips around

the non-profit cooperative.
But it was easy to see that
the real drawing card for the
day was the big machinery
which transports, digs and
lifts necessary poles and
lines. In less time than it takes
to tell about it, a hole was dug
with the hydraulic auger.
A pole swung into place,
the dirt was shoveled back in,
and a man in full climbing
gear took his place at the top.
He was met by another
lineman in the bucket truck as
children below strained their
necks for a glance above.

"This is the type of pro
gram we enjoy giving most,"
said spokesman Jim Autry.
"It gives the general public
an up-close look at how we
bring them electric service in
the areas we cover."

to the LREMC crewmen.

ative, Lumbee River EMC
provides service to more than
20,000 consumers in Robeson,
Scotland, Hoke and Cumber
