Carl Harding is well known
in the Baltimore Indian com
munity. Most people identify
Carl be his volunteer and

Mr. Harding, also known aa
"HawkbiU" waa one of the
pioneer* in Baltimore City
into study of the Lumbee
culture and ceremonial tradi
tions.
An understudy of Mr.
Avery Lewis, Pima, Mr. Har
ding became a "quick study."
He learned a lot and was able
to teach others as be. himself,

Harding was one of the lead
and central teachers of young
people concerning Indian
dancing and traditions. Carl
held regular sessions at the
American Indian Center in
Baltimore. "The youth loveti

keeping kids interested when
Avery and Carl were here,"
she continued.

in Pembroke.
Now, in the same vein, Mr.
Harding is one of the busiest
and widely recognized em
ployers of young Native
American men in the Balti

for himself, Mr. Harding
