University evofNC wamwn I v COMMENCEMENTi ALWAYS A GREAT DAY AT PSB It is always a happy day on the PSU campus when parents and friends converge here to honor loved ones who are graduating. Such will be the case at 2 p.m. Saturday when 320 undergraduate stu dents and 49 graduate stu dents march forward to recei ve their degrees. The speaker will be Jm SandRn of Lumberton, presi dent of Southern National Corporation and Southern National Bank of North Caro lina. Prior to the commencement the PSU Board of Trustees will have a business session at 10 a.m., and following lunch. PSU ROTC cadets will also be sworn in as second lieute nants after graduating Satur day. DR. BOLiCH TO BE ANGUS McLEAN PROFESSOR OF BUSINESS A FINANCE Dr. Leeu M. Bolich, newly named as chairman of the PSU Business Admini stration and Economics De partment, will also be Angus W. McLean Professor of Business and Finance. This McLean Chair was establish ed in 1977 by the McLean family in honor of Angus ~* WIHeu McLean of Lumberton, Governor of North Carolina from 1925-29 and also Assis tant Secretary oi the U.S. Treasury from 1920-21. Until this year the funding for the McLean Chair has been used to bring in outstan ding speakers in regards to business and finance. The money for the chair will now help fund the new chairman's position as head of the PSU Business Administration and Economics Department. Angus McLean, a native of Robeson County, lived from 1870-1935. Hacker McLean, chairman of the board of Southern National Bank, is one of McLean's children who helped make this annual gift to PSU possible. PSITS POLLY ALLEN REACHES NATIONALS IN MUSIC COMPETITION PaRy Alan, a PSU fresh man from Dillon, SC, has reached the national finals in church music competition, * advancing in two categories Percussion (she plays the marimba) sad the organ. She won in district competition at Dillon. triumphed in regional competition at BennetuviUe. SC and then swept the state competition at Orangeburg. SC. The national event will be ? Kansas Chy. Mo.. Aug. 10-18, in sn all- expenses P?d trip for her. A Music Education major, ?he is a Dean's List student *nd Sweetheart of Phi Mu Alpha. At Dillon High School, she was a member of the Beta Club, president of the band ?nd in the top 10 in her class. GEORGE SPAULXHNGi HELPS HIS REPLACEMENT George Spaaldlag. who retired from the PSU main tenance department last De cember after being a mechan ical and air conditioning spec ialist here for two years, has he en back on the campus recently instructing his repla cement. Spaukling is a native of Rowland, while his wife, Floela, hails from Lawton, Okla. They haviq two children. PSU TO BE PACT OF ? INDUSTRY ON PAIADE At the inviUhoDof Bait ITIilhiin PSU will be part of Robeson County's "Industry on Parade" observance May 19-23 at Robeson Technical College. Dickinson said 5,000 seventh, eighth, and ninth graders will be taken by bus to the exhibits. PSU will have an entire room where it will have displays and show the excellent film recently com pleted about the institution. Some 40 industries are taking patt. The event will be televised. DC.
