NC held its annual Mother's Day pro gram Sunday morning in the presence of a full sanctuary at 11 a.m. followed by the Mother's Day message by the pastor. Rev. Julian Ransom. Before the program got underway awards were given to various mothers for their church contributions rendered during the year. Mrs. Mag deline Woods, the oldest mother, received a corsage which was pinned on her by Mrs. Ruth Oxendine. Also, she was bestowed the honor as "Mother of the Church" by her pastor Rev. Ransom. She was also awarded a gift for this honor with her two sons standing bv her side, the Rev. Monroe Woods and Henry Woods, Jr. The second eldest mother, Mrs. Rut hie Chaivs Locklear received a corsage pinned on her by Mrs. Ruth Oxendine. The youngest mother, Mrs. Nancy Lockl ear's granddau ghter, Benita Locklear, of the Prospect community, received a corsage pinned on her by Mrs. Ruth Oxendine. Mrs. Catherine Chavi$ received an award for having the most children present. Mrs. Myrtle Locklear and Mrs. Parree Jacobs received a corsage for their church maintenance service. Their corsages were pinned on them by their daughter and son. Miss Lyn ette Jacobs and Spencer Locklear. Flowers on the ahar were presented to Mrs. Lucy Oxendine. the choirster and Mrs. Connie Bullard, pianist for their music contribution*. The Mother's Day program followed, consisting of a play 1 "Portraits of Mother" under the direction of the program committees, Rudy Locklear, Clyde Colbert and Kernes L. Locklear. Various groups par ticipated. primary through adults. At the close of the play, Rudy sang a special song "Heaven Will Never Welcome A Sweeter Mother" followed by a poem "Mothers Works" by Mrs. Luellen Lowry. Following the program, Rev Ram son read die following scriptures: Proverbs 31:10- 20 and John 19:25-27 using for his subject "Mother, the Basic Need of Life." At the close of the message. Rev. Ransom announced the closing number, marched to thg vestibule to greet many.. visitors and friends and than king them for their presence. Closing prayer was given by Rev. Monroe Woods. Men were asked to remain in church until the mothers marched out, receivng a Hve plant at the door. Rev. Ransom wished every one a happy Mother's Day and God's blessings on those families that were assembling togetfiet for a wonderful warm relationship, whether h be in the restaurants or homes.
