Detec tive Garth Locklear, Coordi nator of "Safety Town" in Robeson County, spoke to the staff of Lumbee Regional Development Association, Inc. at their tegular weekly staff meeting. The purpose of "Safety Town" is to introduce safety methods to preschool-age children. According to Detec tive Locklear, "Safety has been left out of our children's early training." "Safety Town" is a mini town scaled down to acco modate the pre-school child ten, complete with streets, signs, etc. The student drives through the mini-town in a an niniature car, observing the safety tips* and methods aught him in the classroom. The uniquely new concept. n early childhood training caches the student safety wocedures and methods in he classroom for one hour, rhere is a ratio of S students >er teacher. After the hour of :lass room training, the stu lent is taken to "Safety [own" to practise what he las learned. The course con sists of 2 hours per day, for 10 lays. At the end of the !0-hour course the student graduates, complete with a xrtificate.
