6 Students to attend Summer Program % .Maix l* j Hum Six Robeson County stu dents have been chosen to Health Career Summer Pro gram in Mackinaw City, Michigan, this summer. The students, all participants of the Robeson County Health Careers Awareness Project were selected through a very competitive process, involv ing all Indian tribes through out the United States. Through the students' parti cipation in the H-Cap pro gram, they were identified and recommended for the eight week program held June 14-Aug. 6. The Headlands Indian Health Career Program is designed to enrich the science and mathematics back grounds and communication skills of native American students interested in health careers. The enrichment con sists of courses in biology, chemistry, physics and math. The program is also intended to make students aware of the variety of health careers and of the need for native Ameri can Health professionals. Each student participant^ will be provided with free room and board and tuition during the program as well as round trip air transportation. New Officers of Pembroke Joycees * by larneil Uickiear The Pembroke Jaycees re cently held their annual In stallation Banquet. This pres tigious event was held at the Jaycee Hut located on the Deep Branch Rd. The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with fine food prepared by the Fillin* Station Staff. I'lVsiueiit Jimmy Uoins wel comed everyone to the event and afterwards began a pro gram that will be long remem bered by everyone who at tended. i The guest speaker was Eric Frevatte a long-time active member of the Lumberton Jaycees. Eric spoke of the morale issues that affects all Jaycees in Robeson County and all across the United States. The next event was the big four which included the fol lowing-Kelvin Collins presen ted Rc.kie of the Year to Randall Cummings; Gary toeklear presented the Jaycee of the Year to Stanley Lock lea r; Jimmy Gouts presented Key Man of the Year to Carlton Dial. Jimmy Goins also presented Officer of the Year to Willie Harris; on behalf of the Pembroke Jaycees Jimmy Goins presen ted a Special Award of Honor to Carnell Locklear for the many years of service to the Jaycees. Bobby Dean Lock lear presented Carnell with Boss of the Year Award. Several members of the or guni/uuon were recognized lor liieir valuable service by President Jimmy Go int. Pres ident Goins also recognized members for being in the organization for 10 and 15 years, fast President Greg iuntitling* was in charge ot the installation of officers. The installed officers for 1982-83 are; President Willie Harris; Internal, Bill Oxen dine; External, Raymond Cummings, Ways and Means, Stanley Locklear, Treasurer, Harold Hunt; Secretary, Hart ley Oxendine; State Director, William Lowery; Board of Directors included the follow ing; Kelvin Collins, Harold Locklear, James Jacobs and Roscoe Lewis. After the swearing in Willie Harris newly elected President wel comed all Jaycees to a chal lenging year and vowed to match or beat outgoing Presi dent Jimmy Goins. The Pem broke Jaycees would love to give a special thanks to the Pembroke Jaycettes for being so co-operative and giving uieir continuing support in making our community a , better place in which to live. After the event where 100 or more people were in atten tance, a gala Disco Dance took place and everyone danced until the wee hours of the morning.
