" ? sStoSX) A tylniatry of the / Burnt smum B?pt/si Atao&atton -J ?. '??? ' ? ? -. ? SUBJECTi SOLAS ft TITUS) WOBKEKS WITH PAUL OB WANTEDi TEAM PLAYEB& By Br. law?sa 9. My, 3^;^CMtatfaiMS 7L2-16) Ssl-24 The question that comes to mind as we read this Sunday School lesson is: how much would the Apostle Paul or any outstanding Christian leader accomplish without the help of others, without team play ers? Now it is a mark of Paul's greatness that he was always willing to acknowledge those who helped him or accompan ied him in travel or in prison. His epistles abound in per sonal references that reveal the value he put on those men, and women who stood by his side under varying circum stances. Among these wen Silas and Titus. No great accomplishments are record ed for these two men and so tike many unsung heroes down through the centuries they were content to receive commendations as -faithful men to the glory of God and were willing to play lesser roles in order that God's cause might be advanced. Fortunate is the pastor and the church that has good church helpers to help in caring for the work of the Lord. Good church helpers can be a pastor's greatest asset and ally. Our attitude whether pastor, church leader or helper has a great deal to do with whether or not we am effectively work together with ?om another and other Chris tians. And we will be-able to wort together effectively if we wfil ever keep in the forefront of our minds that our sole purpose as Christians is to save "Cod in Christ" and to advance God's kingdom on earth It is urgent that all who are elected in the select role of "servant-leader" act re sponsibly. We are to be responsible followers of Christ and responsible "ser vant-leaders." We are re sponsible to Christ and the Church. Silas and Titus were the kind of persons the Church cotild _jrust with a serious mission. And least we forget any mission carried out* in the name of the Lord is serious. Therefore, any office to which the Church may elect us deserves our best, our upmost tor the highest. The other side of the coin is the fact that a church should very carefully select people for positions of responsibility and leadership. There is too much at stake to commit the leader ship of the Church to people who are spiritually indiffe re It should be noted oi Silas that be remained with the Church of Antioch for their These is no grepter asset than that of stickability through thick and thin. Our churches today are often plaqued with roving members. I like to call them buzzard church- goers, After they have picked to pieces one church's leader ship and members they move on to another church to pick and criticize. It is members who stand by their church and uphold it that strengthen the cause of Christ and the Church. People who just visit around help no one. They become spectators rather than participants. They make poor workers and poor teamplay ers. Church work is also handicapped by members who take mini-vacations about every other Sunday. This admittedly may be very en joyable but it certainly doesn't make responsible church members or good team play ers. Even if they attend church services somewhere else on their mini vacation fulfilling their Chrirti? re spoesibility Chinch trwy***? oo the go wfll mwi get a chruch on the go. ft is Mid of. Taw that "of hla own accord" he Went to Loriath to help tne Conntman chinch. Hia action describes the voluntary nature of the truly dedicated, positive Christian. He did not have to be begged to serve nor was be like so many that get their feelings hurt if they aren't asked. He just saw a need and volunteered to do his part. He was not a reluctant Christian servant but was eager to minister wherever needed. The Christian is not a conscript; he is an eager volunteer. Volunteer this Sunday to be a church helper wherever needed. Paul in verse twenty-three of Chapter eight of Second Corinthians speaks of Titus and two others of bringing glory to Christ, that is, their lives were as mirrors in which Christ and the excellency of Christ's character was re flected. Nothing greater can be said of any person: no one should be able to say less of ur Christian. This is what is ?Mat by bring lag glory Is Christ. May all true freHevers*" bring glory to Christ as did Titus and bis two fellow workers in Christ. They were truly team players. May we bd 1 counted on the team players to the glory of Christ and the blessing of others in His f^aroe. Asa?.
