The conference will also serve to introduce tottie State Mr. Donald Biel^an, newly appointed Directoi of the North Carolina Microelectro nics Research Center. Biel man, who will deliver the luncheon keynote address, assumed his new position this week. Formerly of the Gene ral Electric Corporation, Bielman will address the role of industry in scientific an State School Board; Mr. Wayne Dillon, middle grades speci alist for the State Department of Public Instruction will represent junior high schools; university representation in chides Dr. Larry Clark, Asso ciate Provost of NC State University and Dr. McLoais Clayton, Associate Vice Pres ident for Academic Affairs and Research at Shaw Uni versity; industrial re pre sen tatives include William Bel of IBM and Mrs. William Gary. Sr. of the Computer Sciences Corporation. The conference will also feature presentations by lea ders of two special programs which have drawn much at tention in Korth Carolina. The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham will be represented by its Director Charles Eilber and Dr. Cecily Selby of the school's Advisory Board. Sel by was recently appointed co chair of a National Science Foundation Commission whi ch is charged with recom mending a national Federal Policy toward scientific, mathematical and technical education. Discovery Place, a very successful experimen tal program in Charlotte aim ed at extending museum resources to the classroom will be represented by its Director, Dti Freda Nichol son. Joining Governor Hunt to represent government will be Congressman Ike Andrews (D-Raleigh), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee, Congressman Mervyn Dymally (D-CA) a member of the House Science and Technology Committee, State Representative Lura Tally (D-Fayetteville), Chair of the High Edcuation Com mittee, Representative G. Malcolm Fulcher, Jr. (D Atlantic Beach), House Chair of die Education Appropria tions Committee and Mr. Ben Ruffin, Special Assistant to the Governor for minority affairs. The conference is jointly sponsored by Governor Hunt, Congressman Mervyn Dym ally, and President Stanley Smith of Shaw University. There is no registration fee.
