Comprehensive Empl<Vyn?ent & Training ifjit SUMMER YOtfTH PROGRAM A Component of Lumbee Regional Development Association, Inc W PURPOSE OF CETA: It Is the purpose of Indian and Native American Programs under this act, Title III - Section 302, to provide job training and employ ment opportunities for economically disadvantaged, unemployed, or under employed Indian and Native American persons, which will result 1n an Increase 1n their earned Income, and to assure that training and other servles lead to maximum employment opportunities and enhanced self-sufficiency by estab lishing a flexible and coordinated system of programs conducted by Indian tribes, bands and groups and Native American and other organizations. FUNDING: Funded by the United States Department of Labor; Office of Indian and Native American Programs. Programs are administered at the national level. PURPOSE OF SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM: This program isdesigned to provide meaning ful work experience for youth between the ages of 14-21 for a period of eight weeks resulting in the development of good work habits and attitudes, exposure to various occupations of interest to the participants, "return of dropouts to an educational program or unsubsidized employment, and the provision of income for economically disadvantaged students to enable them to remain in an educational institution. The CETA Program apooaored a one-day Orientation June 14, 1982 at Pembroke Senior High School. The Orientation consisted of special presentations, workshops, counseling sessions sad Job market Information. Each CETA Counselor held a special group session with their respective ? participants to 1> Provide Orientation on CETA regulations, 2] the Counselor's rote, 3] to hitrodnce the enrolles to their respective worksite supervisors. Workshops were conducted on: 1] LRDA programs, 2] Jobs hi demand for the 80's, 3] Financial aid, and 4] Job seeking/keeping skills.
