Staff
Valuta Brooks, daughter of
Earl and Lorraine Brooks,
formerly of Pembroke, NC
began working at the Loch
Raven Center June 7th,
immediately following her
graduation at Tow son State
University. Valina majored in
Psychology at Tow son with
emphasis in the are of Psych
ological Counseling.
Valina is a family planning
technician, and as part of the
health care team, has direct
contact with patients as an
interviewer and counselor.
She also does lab tests, draws
blood and is responsible for
records and appointments.
Her warmth and sensitivity
encourage patients to feel
comfortable at Loch Raven,
and her diligence and effici
ency has been essential to the
smooth running of tjie clinic.
staff joins with her in ex
tending a warm invitation to
The Lumbees in the Baltimore
area to take advantage of our
services. Because of our
non-profit status, services are
rendered at reduced rates.
For over fifty years Planned
Parenthood df Maryland has
helped thousands of men and
women with their
reproductive health care, and
is one of the largest and
busiest affiliates of the Plan
ned Parenthood Federation.
Begun by a group of dedica
ted Baltimore physicians, who
recognized the need for con
traceptive services, the clinic
is now located at 610 North
Howard Street in downtown
Baltimore.
A variety of services are
available at the clinic, inclu
ding contraceptive counsel
ing, gynecological exams,
vasectomy and mini- laparo
tomy, (male and female ster
ilization), abortion, infertility
counseling, and pregnancy
testing and referral. Patients
ace seen -by a * staff of
Dhvsicians certified nurse
midwives. and family plan
ning technicians. Fees are on
a sliding scale basis and,
when necessary, Planned
Parenthood will offer financial
assistance.
In addition to the downtown
center, Planned PmmUmm) u
proud to announce the
opening of their satellite
clinics. The coocept at the
satellite dinks originated in
Rocky Mountain, Colorado.
Planned Parenthood of Mary
land has joined Colorado as a
pioneer in the satellite
concept. There are three
satellites in operation cur
rently- one in Waldorf, Mary
land, within dose proximity to
Valine's sister tribe, the
Piscataway; one in the Gar
wyn Medical Cetner at 2300
Garrison Boulevard and, of
course, the Loch Raven
Center in the Loch Ridge
Shopping Center, 1714 Joan
Avenue at the corner of Loch
Raven Boulevard. Future
satelliltes are being planned
in other strategic locations in
Baltimore Gty and Baltimore
County.
A team of four health care
professionals including a
certified nurse-midwife and a
physician work closely
together doing routine gyne
cological exams, venereal
disease testing and treat
ment, contraceptive counsel
ing, and pregnancy testing
and referral. Everyone on
staff is trained to interview
and counsel men and women,
do routine lab tests, to
schedule appointments and
give out supplies. The medi
cal staff examines and does
follow-up referral. Beta use of
the team approach, patients
are seen with a minimum of
waiting time. The fees at Loch
Raven are less than the fees of
a private physician and
contraceptive supplies are
approximately half the price
of those purchased in a
pharmacy.
The Loch Raven Center has
been very well received by the
community and continues to
grow steadily. Patients of all
ages, including the mothers of
patients, seek our services
and are coming from all areas
of Baltimore County. Our
patients repeatedly praise the
convenience, professionalism
and friendly atmosphere of
the Loch Raven Center and
appreciate the thorough and
comprehensive health care.

NOW CPY DOES

WHATMPG
DOES FOR CARS.
When the EFA started
MPG ratings, car-buyers got a
new way to evaluate cars
Now the same idea has
been put to work in appliances
by the U.S. Department of
Energy It's called"Energy Guide
Labeling," and it can make a big
difference in the cost ot keeping your appliances running. i
For example, there can be a $38 difference in the Energy J
CFY(Gost Fter rear) of refngerator/freezers the same size. !
Of course costs and savings may vary but the idea is to !
get the best deal you can on energy So look for the label when !
you shopt Or just ask us for the details Because the more you !
get out a your energy dollars, the more we ran get out of ours I
And the less your bills will have to go up later on. !
