Church was the setting for the
wedding of Miss Linda Jacobs
and Eddie Holmes on Satur
day, August 21, at six o'clock
in the evening. Officiating at
the candlelight ceremony
were the Revs. Simeon F.
Cummings and Bill James
Locklear.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Rodney
Ransom of Red Springs, NC
and the late Edward Lee
Jacobs of Pembroke. Parents
of the bridegroom are Mr. and
Mrs. Normie Holmes of Lum
berfon. "
A program of nuptial music
was presented by Rudy Lock
lear. . ?
The bride was escorted to
the altar by her stepfather.
She wore a formal gown of
candlelight organza which
featured an off the shoulder
sweetheart neckline accented
by the flowers and leaves of
re- embroidered imported
Venice lace and seed pearls.
The bodice was designed with
an empire fashion and full
chiffon sleeves appliqued with
Chantilly and Venice lace. An
accordian pleated skirt flowed
into a Cathedral length train
and bordered with hand
swen SchiffK lace.
The bridal veil was design
ed with a raised Juliet Cap
and a double sheer illusion,
which featured a border of
Venice lace accented by seed
pearls. She carried a cascad
ing bouquet of spring flowers
in rainbow colors with baby's
breath, accented with 'ptnk
and blue satin streamers
tied in love knots.
Attending the bride as
Maid of Honor was Miss
Christine Jacobs of Charlotte,
sister of the bride. Ms.
Sandra J. Brewer of Lumber
ton served as Matron of
Honor. They wore floor length

ton, sisters of the bridegroom,
and Miss Debbie Loo Locfclear
of Pembroke. They wore floor
length gowns identical to the
honor attendants but each in a
rainbow of color and carried a
whtie Fench lace fan with an
arrangement of silk spring
flowers in rainbow colors
accented with pink streamers
end wore baby's breath in
their hair.
Natasha Cummings of
Pembroke, Crystal Jacobs of
Lumberton, nieces of the
bride and Jillian Emanuel of
Lumberton, niece of the bride
groom, served as flower girls.
The theme of "rainbow"
colors was carried over into
the selection of apparel for the
Jtower girls. Satinette was the
eye catcher" material used
tor these "midi" length
gowns. The bound scoop
neckline was designed with
full ruffles and the gathered
cap which was in a band was
elbow length.The empire bo
dice was uniquely distin
guished by a matching band
and fell into a deeply ruffled
skirt. They each carried white
wicker baskets of spring flow
ers in rainbow colors and wore
a halo of flowers in their hair.
Miss Allison Locklear of
Maxton, cousin of the brdie,
bnde, was junior bridesmaid.
She wore a floor length gown
identical to the flower girls
but with a-ruffled cap sleeve
and carried a white French
lace fan adorned with silk
spring flowers in rainbow
colors and matching yellow
streamer. A halo of flowers
accompanied her hair.

The bridegroom's brother,
Michael L. Holmes of Nova
Scotia, Canada, was best
man. Groomsmen were Ger

The bridegroom is a gradu
ate of Magnolia High School
and is a member of the U.S.
Navy stationed in Patuxent
River, Md.
Following a wedding trip to
Maryland, the couple will
reside in Patuxent River, Md.
RECEPTION
Following the cefemony,
the bride's parents hosted a
reception in the Fellowship
Hall of the church. Greeting
quests were Rev. and Mrs.
Bill James Locklear of Maxton
NC, aunt and uncle of the
bride.
Tables were covered with
white antique lace over green
table cloths, and were
accented with flowers and
ferns.
A round table held the
three-tie red wedding cake
adorned with flowers and
ferns was served by Ms. Ester
O. Hedrick, aunt of the bride.
Refreshment tables were cen
tered with arrangements of
spring flowers.
Miss Patsy Low cry served
punch from a crystal bowl
encircled with flowers. She
was assisted by Miss Audrey
Oxendine, cousin of the bride.
Guests served themselves to a
variety of party delicacies as
music was played throughout
the event.
Displayed on a decorated
table, an oil painting of the
bride accented with a red rose
in a crystal vase.
Assisting in serving were
Ms. Lucy 0. Thomas and Ms.
Ethel D. Oxendine, aunts of
the bride.
REHEARSAL PARTY
Following the rehearsal on
Friday evening, Mr. and Mrs.
Normie Holmes, parents of
the bridegroom, hosted a
party given in their home.
Guests helped themselves to a
variety of party foods.
SOCIAL COURTESIES '
Prior to the wedding, the
bridal couple were honored on
several occasions.
Ms. Wanda J. Brooks and
Miss Christine Jacobs, sisters
of the bride, hosted a miscel
laneous shower in the Fellow
ship Hall of Union Chapel E
Community Church. The
theme of rainbow colors was a

September 12, 1982 at a
reception given by their chil
dren, in celebration of their
25th Wedding Anniversary.
The event was held at Mt.
Airy Baptist Church Fellow
Ship Hall.

Foyer of the Fellowship Hall,
were Mr. and Mrs. John L.
Locklear, Jr. and Mrs. Brenda
Lowery registered the guests.
Forming the receiving line
were Mr. and Mrs. Strick
land, their children Delilah
Locklear. Denise, Reggie Jr.
carried out in choosing decor.
Guests helped themselves to a
wide variety of delicacies.
Ms. Ailene Holmes, mother
of the bridegroom, Ms. Olivia
H. Oxendine and Ms. Darlene
Holmes, sistgfs of the bride
groom, entertained at a mis
cellaneous shower which was
given at the home of the
bridegroom's mother. Miss
Jacobs was presented a cor
sage in her chosen colors and
received numerous gifts. A
variety of party favorites were
served.

Lowery; and Ms. Alma Rose
Bell, sister of Mr. Strickland.
The refreshment table was
overlaid with white lace and
accented with a bosquet of
white and blue carnations. On
the table was a piece of
crosstitch done in honor of the
couple by Mrs. Diane Cum
mings. Punch was poured
from a silver punch bowl by
Mrs. Dale Lowery.
The three-tiered anniver
sary cake baked by Mrs.
Stella Jacobs was served by
Mrs. Patricia Lowery, Mrs.
Shelia Hunt, Mrs. Ruth Lock
lear and Mrs. Lilly Kalie
served a variety of hors
d'oeuvre.
Mrs. Lelia Jacobs, Mrs.
Deloise Lowery and Mrs. Lou
Strickland were in charge of
displaying the many gifts the
couple received.
Good-byes were said by
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cum
mings. Approximately 230
guests attended between the
hours of 3 and 6 p.m. Elmer
Hunt was photographer.

WE. the undersigned, being qualified voters, who reside within the County of Robeson do hereby
petition your honorable body or bodies, as the case may be, for an election on the question of
whether or not the 5 (five) above named school administrative units shall be merged into one
administrative unit with such election governed by the provisions of G.S. 1 ISC-507 with authority of
the Robeson County Board of Commissioners to hold said election.
FURTHER, that said election will be called to approve or not approve merger of the above named 5
(five) administrative units according to a certain study entitled, "Rabsssu County, Fafcuaaut,
Lumberton, Maxton, Red Springs, St. Paula 1970 Schaol Survey" as was conducted by NuR
Carolina Deportment of Public Instruction, Division of School Plouufag and as might be iftodified by
the N.C. State Board of Education and the S (five) above named Boerds of Education to comply with
G.S. 11SC-67 and to utilize existing and planned facilities.
FURTHER, that members of the new Board of Education be elected from the same districts aa the
Robeson County Commissioners as those districts have been approved by the U.S. Justice
Department under the Voting Rights Act.
