The exhibit would thus be up for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods. The person responsible for bringing the exhibit to PSU to rector of the Lambee River Native American Center tor the Arts, which is in its third year at operation. Mrs. Loctlear and her staff visited the Santa Fe institute in Jane of 1981 and immedi ately took steps to invite the exhibit to Pembroke. At that time M| LsrMsar and Har old Lock lea* of Pembroke were attending a summer session at the institute. Craig now works there as an in structor, while Harold is art instructor for the Robeson County Indian Education Pro "This is an exceptional opportunity for oar students interested in art in Robeson County," said Mrs. LocUear. The exhibit, entitled "One With The Earth," contains 45 beadwork, weaving and bas ketry. Putting the exhibit together waa the Bureau of Indian 1 Affair* which did so for the nation's Bicentennial in 1976. Its purpose as stated was "to share with Native and non af a ? ? ?t ? ? athA at.. I. ?> Nauve America tne ncnnesa and variety at Native Ameri can heritage which continues to contribute significantly to the life of our nation." Mrs. Locklear and PSU have worked closely with Chasles Daly. director at the Institute at American Indian Aft Museum, in arranging the exhibit. During the eight-week per iod that the exhibit will be in PSU*s Native American Re source Center, it will be open from 8 a.m. to S p.mr Mondays through Fridays. If groups wishing to visit the exhibit on Saturdays during this time will contact PSITs Native American Resource Center, it will be specially opened for them. Mrs. Locklear has been working with some ISO gifted and talented Indian students in the areas at visual arts, music, dance, creative writing and drama from the seventh through the 12th grades.
