two plaques, one entitled,
"An Admirable Man." the
other plaque being engraved
with words of appreciation for
his devotion to the important
things ih life.
Locklear's first occupation
was farming and being mvoi
vedin the hog business. He
loved and enjoyed this for
some time. He was very
prosperous, for he and his
wife, Velma Sampson Lock
lear, reared and provided
for the education of ten
children. Of the ten, five have
college degrees, three are
doing well with their liveli
hood. The other two children
have gone to be with the Lord.
Locklear retired from his
fanning in the year 1966. He
then moved from the Lum
berton area to Pembroke. In
the year 1967 he went to work
with the Tri- County Man
Power Program which lasted
for nine months. He was then
employed with the Housing
Authority in Pembroke for
* period of (inc. After this, he
his wife. She wss M at this
the responsibility of caring for
her. Her treated her caring
time as a loving .husband and
as an occupation. He patiently
carried out these duties for
three years. In the month of
November, the year being
1960, Locklear'* wife went to
be with the Lord.
Locklear being the age of
seventy one was not yet ready
to retire. He had been told by
his doctor that he wss in
excellent health. Therefore he
set out again for work. In
January of 1981 he went to
work with the Clinton Thomas
Day Care Center of which he
now retires from. At the age
of 73 he is now ready to give
up the "Must Be On The Job
Business."
Why does he retire with
honors? Locklear almost
always put the Lord first in
whatever he was attempting.
He truly believed the Bible
verse which reads "Seek ye
first the Kingdom of God and
His righteousness and all ?
these other things shall be)
adde^mtc^ou/Mfe^began^
his married life with the Lord,
heme saved at the age of 21.
Family devotions were always
a part of the daily activities in
the -home This was a great
influence iwth his ten children
as eight if them today have
accepted the Lord as their
Savior.
Locklear's motto has been
"Honor the Lord and He will
Honor you."
? "It is indeed a great honor
to retire at the age of 73 and
be blessed with good health, a
wonderful family, prosperous
years and a loving Heavenly
Father who has and is watch
ing over me," said Lock!ear.
He also added, "To God be
the glory for all of His love
and kindness.*'
Locklear's children believe
their Dad has truly been one
of the best. They love him
dearly and admire him for all
of his loving-untiring efforts.
They admire him most for
being a Godly Man, which
helped them to know what life I
is all about. Said his children, i
"Dad is truly an admirable
man."
