"FIRE PREVENTION " OBSERVANCE I LREMC Youth Board Installs Officers Red Spring*-The Youth Board of Directors of Lumbee River EMC held their first meeting of the new school year last week to coincide with the Annual Meeting of Members of the rural electric coopera tive. Parkton High School senior Jeffrey Johnson was elected president of the 12 member board. The Youth Board was se lected by stiidents enrolled in seven area high schools. Students from Pembroke. South Robeson. Magnolik. Maxton. Orrum. Prospect and Parkton High Schools voted on their representatives to the board. The number of representa tives from each high school ? was dictated by enrollment of the school. The program is of the school. The program is being coordinated by Robeson dent Purnell Swett as an educational experience. The Board will meet regu larly to set policies and bylaws for operation of the Lumbee River EMC Youth Programs inrougnout the year and at the Annual Meeting. Four mem bers of the Board will rotate off each year as they gradaute from high school and four more will be elected to replace them. Other area schools may be invited to join in the program. According to LREMC' Assistant Manager Ronnie Hunt, the experience of parti cipation is offered to give these students a feel of the operation of a cooperatively run business. "These county school students are going to actively participate in the operation of our youth pro grams in the future...That's good for them and even better for us." Lumbee River EMCis under writing the operation of the Youth Board and will offer an all-expense paid trip to Washington. DC to one of the members each summer. Other officers for this ; year's Board are: Errol Oxen dine, vice president; Hzie Davis-treasurer and Carmela Lewis-secretary. The members are Kimberly Chavis, Perry Hammonds, Eric Locklear and Rosa Ran some from Pembroke; Veron ica Robinson. Carmela Lewis and Errol Oxendine from South Robeson; Jonathan Hall from Magnolia; Elzie Davis from Maxton; April Ford from Orrum; Darryl Locklear from Prospect: and Jeffrey Johnson from Parkton.
