FAIRGROVE 'TEACHER . OF THE YEAR' Mi*. Sandra H. Strickland, Taacher of the Year for Fairgrove School Mr*. Sandra H. Strickland haa recently been named "Teacher at die Year" for Fairgrove School. She was honored at a reception where she was presented a lovely corsage done in school colors along with a plaque which, was inscribed to read Sandra H. Strickland, Teacher of the Year, 1982-83. Mr. Larece Hunt, principal, made the presentation. Mrs. Strickland is a native of Robeson County. She at tended Fairgrove School and graduated valedictorian of her class. She returned to Fair grove School three years later to begin her teaching career. She taught elementary music for four years, then began teaching elementary educa tion, grade 6, wbch currently The honoree attended Pembroke State University ?BMfljHMjHkMill music education (k-12). a^BJS cation (4-9) and a MA degree in Elementary Education (4-9) She also enrolled in a course offered by PSU that UugM the Orff-Kodaly Method of | Music Instrucftkm-for elemen tary students. As a member of New Prospect Church, Mrs. Strick land is active in church activities in that she is a member of the adult church i choir, pianist for the young peoples choir, pianist and assistant organist, assistant Sunday School Teacher of the Young Adult Class and Ac teens Group Leader. She also is pianist/director for the Adult and Young Peoples Choir at Macedonia Metho dist Church in Hoke County. Mrs. Strickland resides in the Harper's Ferry Commun ity with her husband, Ronald, and eight month old daugh ter, Shelly Ronita. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred McMurry Hunt of Fairmont. Mrs. Gladys Bullock, voca tional teacher and Mrs. Adell Dark, cafeteria manager, were in charge of the re freshments served at the reception. JOHN CHARLES [JC] I BROOKS i Funeral services for John Charles (J.C.) Brooks, Jr. were held Thursday, October 21, 1982 at 4 p.m. at Ever Green Holiness Church. Offi ciating ministers were Rev. Joseph Locklear, Rev. Micha el Cummings, and Rev. C.W. Maynor. Burial followed in the Oxendine Cemetary. John Charles Brooks, Jr. was born July 16, 1952; he died October 18. 1982. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John C. and Leacie Brooks and five sisters, Rose Ella Brooks of Charlotte; Linda Rose Oxen dine of Pembroke; Ruth Elaine Vollmar of West Ger many; Beverly and madelene Brooks of the home. BRYAN V. WILKINS Master Bryan Victor Wilkins, 5, of Route 2, Red Springs died Tuesday. Funer al services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Mori ah Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his pa rents, Mr. and Mrs. Vickey Wilkins of the home; his sister. Miss Bobbie Wilkins of the home; his paternal grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Eutic Wilkins; his maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. James McGirt of Route 3, Lumber ton. He was killed Tuesday { morning when he slipped beneath a school bus and was dragged and crushed to death before the school bus could be stopped.
