MT. AIRY NEWS by Violet Lockloer Among tome of the many visitors on Sunday in our ;hurch were Mrs. Sallie Lock ear of Mt. Clemmons. Mich., ?Irs. Adelaide and some of _ier family of Detroit, Mich., Mr. Stacy Cummings of Rockville, Md., Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Locklear, and Miss Deborah Wilkins. It was our joy to see so many we hadn't seen in quite a while. Special music was by the Brotherhood Choir which was really wonderful. The pastor's message was really some strong doctrine. Taken from Matthew 5:9 On the subject, "Blessed Are the Peacemakers." He challeng ed us to follow the example of Jesus in bringing people together in loving relation ships. It takes the children of God to become peacemakers. Bro. George Lloyd gave an inspiring testimony Sunday which wanned the hearts of many. He reminds me so much of Bro. Robert, whom we suffered the loss of this noble man one year ago last month. As we see a lot of the fruits of Bro. Robert's life, it will live on and on in the hearts of all who passed his way. Last week was our first week for our summer day Camping Ministry. 102 enrol led for our first day and the pastor was personally thrilled at this good beginning. It took 2 bus trips to get the children to chapel for lunch. We are fortunate to have good work en who teach Bible and work with our children rttth craft activities. The afternoon is spent in recreation at the park as many of the parents come out and help supervise the children. It is open from Thursday through the weekend. Bro. Pete is around each day. Bro. Harlie Well Locklear is lead ing a team this week in a backyard Bible Club at Jamestown Village. The pas tor is helping him out. Vo lunteers are accepted. This is an extension of our Vacation Bible School. We are happy to announce that we will be ordaining Rev. Tommy Gist on July IS at 7 p.m. Rev. Tommy has been called to Burnt Swamp Baptist Church as pastor. Everyone is invited to come to this service. The Associations! Ordination Committee will lead the ser vice with Bro. Joseph Lock lear and Rev. Kelly Sanderson in charge. Mr. Bobby Locklear took a bus load to Carowinds. This is an annual event during the week of July 4. As always, he had his bus full. There will be a huge crowd leaving this Monday morning for Fort Caswell for all next weekend, the pastor, the children, the workers, look forward to that dramatic event. ? I Mrs. (James B.) Emma Locklear is spending this week visiting her daughter in Michigan. Hoping her a safe trip back home. Mrs. Lucy O. Thomas, our teacher was hospitalized for 3 days last week. She is back home doing fine. Our Pastor, Rev. Michael Coamings Bless this one. Lord, whom you have called...To break the bread of life... Help him to lead us, every day,... Through all our joys and strife. Support him with your loving arms... And give him strength, we ask,... Because his is no easy way,...His work no easy task. May he have understanding and...You leading from above ...To preach to all along the way...Of Your all-saving love. Not easy, but so full of joy,...This work you've called him to... Bless our pastor, Lord, in all...He strives to do for You. I P.S.: One visitor said to me ' Sunday, "Does he preach to you all like that every Sun day?" He does what I Peter 5:l-2-feed the flock of God which is among you. He will tell you like it is. Weak leadership is not leadership. It is often a self-centered escape from responsibility. God pity the pastor and the | church where every decision must be made in terms of "what will it do to me." We thank God for all our pastors.
