He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Graddie (Harriet Jacobs) Locklear, formerly of Pembroke; his brother, Grady Jr. and twin brother, Terry of the home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hosie Locklear of Saddletree; his step grand mother, Gladys Jacobs of Pembroke. REV. JAMES W. HUNT The Rev. James Wesley Hunt, S7, of Maxton died last Tuesday at Scotland Meorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday at 3 p.m. at West Robeson High School, Pembroke, with the Rev*. Vester Oxendine, Elmer Sizemore, J.C. Carter, Woody Pearce, Wade Lock leer end Elder E.C. Canon officiating. Burial followed in Mount Hebron Church Ceme tery. Survivors include his widow Mr*. Maggie Hunt; two sons, the Rev. James Franklin Hunt of Lumberton and Timmy Ray Hunt of the home; seven daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Lowery, Miss Geneva Hunt, Miss Virginia Hunt and Miss Myrtle Hunt, all of Maxton and Miss Tammy Lynn Hunt, MissTeteasa Hunt and Miss Amanda Hunt, all of the home; three brothers, Earl Hunt of Bennettsville, SC and Willard Hunt of Maxton and Lather Hunt of McColl, SC; his foster mother, Mrs. Mollie Locklear of McColl, SC; one foster son, the Rev. Roger Adkins of McColl, S.C.; one foster daughter, Mrs. Monica Chavis of Lakeland, Fla.; and six grandchildren. The pastor is the Rev. C.C. Allei Sr. Mrs. Susie Martin of Lum berton was visited Sunday by ber br*her, Mr. lames Cal vin Chavis and his son, Mr. Dicky Chavis of Georgia, and Miss Teresa Chavis. Mrs. Martin is convalescing from surgery at her home. Mrs. James Smith of Laurel Hill spent Sunday visiting with ber parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Baker. Both Mr. and Mrs. Baker are in due to injuries they received some weeks ago in a car accident. Refreshment guests Sun day evening in the home of Mis. Heniy F. Smith were Rev. and Mrs. C.C. Allen Jr and family of Hope Mills. Mrs. Tony Jones and chil dren, Kimberly and Hendrick of the Beulah Baptist Church and Mrs. Hilda Faye Hunt, Mrs. Myra Sampson. Ms. Alma Garrity, Ms. Eula Mae Sanders, Rev. and Mrs. C.C. Allen, Sr. and Mr. and Ms. Webster Smith and daughter, Indee Smith. Mrs. Flay Smith was hon ored Saturday night, Oct. 27 with a dinner given by her children in honor of her 80th birthday which was Tuesday, Oct. 30 held at the Fellowship Hall of Mount Olive Rente costal Holiness Church where she is a member. Prayer was offered by Mr. Anthony Cha vis. Approximately 150 rela tives and friends attended along with Mrs. Smith's chil dren who were all present. Also present was her pastor the Rev. Johnie Pollard and his family. Mrs. Smith's children are her sons Mr. Donnie Smith of Maxton; Mr." Oscar Smitli>^Mr. Marvin Smith and Mr. Wade Smith, all of Richmond, Va.; her daughters. On Sunday all of Mrs. Smith's children attended church service with her at I Mount Olive Pentecostal Hol iness Church. At the close of the Sunday School, Mrs. Dora M. Ozendine received special recognition and was present ed a plaque by Mrs. Beulah Smith from the Smith family for the kindness she has and is still giving to their mother. Political Satirist To Speak At Fund-Raising Dinner Gerald Gardner, describ ed as one of the greatest creators of humor and political satire of our time, will be the speaker at the fifth annual Pembroke State University Kickoff Banquet to its Million Dollar Centennial Giving Campaign over a three year period from 1984-87. The $50-a-plate dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Thurs day, Nov. 1, in the English E. Jones Physical Educa tion Center After the banquet, those holding dinner tickets will be special guests at the PSU Performing Arts Center for a Pulitzer Prize winning musical comedy entitled "Of Thee I Sing." "Having this political humorist speak on Nov. 1 just before the elections is good timing." said plan ners of the dinner. One of Gerald Gardner's books was found in Presi dent John F. Kennedy's 45th birthday cake. In 1961 Gardner created his new form of political satire' with "Who's In Charge Here?", which displayed humorously cap tioned newsphotos of public figures. MacLean, Sandlin To Lead Drive The two top officials of Southern National Bank and Corporation - Hector MacLean and Joe Sandlin - will be co-chairmen of a Million Dollar Centennial Campaign Committee which will seek to raise $1 million over the next three year period for Pembroke State University. The campaign will con clude with the 1986-87 academic year, which will MACLEAN SANDLJN be when FSU celebrates its centennial. PSU's Founder's Day ceremony will be held on March 6. 1987, as the climax of the year PSU did not have giving campaigns until 1980 and its goals have climbed each year since then from $50,000 to $60,000 to $100,000 to $150,000 Each year it has surpassed its goal. To reach the $1 million by the centennial year, PSU would more than double its giving in 1984-85 over last year - and maintain such' apace. Sandiin has been co chairman of PSU cam paigns during three of the past four years. He shared the chairmanship in 1981-&2 with James A. (Pete) Jacobs, then mayor of Pembroke For the last two years he and Ira Pate Lowry of Pembroke have been co-chairmen MacLean. a former state senator and one of the leaders in helping PSU ob tain university status in 1969, is chairman of the board and chief executive officer for Southern Na tional Bank and the Cor poration. He is a graduate of Davidson College and the UNC Law School Former mayor of Lumber ton. MacLean is president of the Medical Foundation of N.C. and a director of N.C. Natural Gas Corp. Sandiin is president and chief administrative and chief financial officer of Southern National Bank and the Corporation. He is a graduate of William and Mary College.
