Pembroke Boy Scouts Troop #327 Receives Honors Boy Scout Troop 327 of Pembroke recently was re cognized as one of four top troops among forty represen ting eight counties which compose the Cape Fear Council. The Pembroke boys distinguished themselves at the Island Adventure Cape Fear Council Fall Camporee when they were presented the I Presidential Award, the only Robeson troop to be so honored. The other three recipients were from New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. The Camporee was held October 12-14 on Mason boro Island off the Wilmington Coast with more than seven hundred boys participating. This feat is another sign of the growing prestige of the local 327 Troop. The Scoot Master. Scouts, and their proud parents wish to express their deepest gratitude to the Pembroke businesses and in dividuals who supported and contributed to the recent fund raising campaign to better equip and prepare the scout - program, h is hoped that the community will continue to support Troop 327 in future projects and activities. Robeson County Schools NEWS AND BRIEFS Parent Committee Election Completed The Title IV Part A Indian Educa tion Parent Committee of the Robeson County School System for the 1984-85 school year will be com prised of 52 representatives. The representatives include 36 parents and parent-teachers, 13 alternates and three high school students who were elected by balloting pro cedures by parents of Indian students, teachers of Indian students, and secondary Indian students. The Title IV Parent Committee will meet November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the Robeson County Board of Education to review and discuss the proposed 1984-1985 Title IV Indian Education Project. At this time, an open public hearing for all interested persons is also scheduled, and a business meeting of the Title IV Parent Com mittee will be held immediately following the public hearing. Communicative Skills Committee Meets Members of the Communications Skills Committee met recently with M^j,Cathey Maples, Supervisor of Communication Skills and Foreign Language in the Robeson County School system, to plan for future amendments to the present com municative arts continum. In the October 24 meeting, members drafted a proposed pro gram assessment instrument to be used system wide beginning December 3. The assessment pro vides information from which teachers can identify strengths and weaknesses of the current com municative arts curriculum. Teachers can also specify materials needed to enhance the com municative arts program, select areas for future arts program, select areas for future staff development workshops in communicative arts and formulated an inventory of preferred communicative arts methodology. The committee designated January thru March 1985 for the system wide selection of textbooks for grades 1-8 language arts and grades 2-8 spelling. March was also designated for integration of revi sions for the system's Reading Language Arts Continuum. The distribution of thesauri and blank video casettes to each school was completed at the committee meeting. The committee scheduled November 8, November 27 and January 8 as dates for future meetings. "Book Fair Software Exhibit The Division of Media, Computer Instruction and Cultural Arts of the Robeson County Board of Education sponsored a "Book Fair Software Exhibit" on Tuesday, October 30, at Piney Grove School. Nine vendors representing several agencies made available a large assortment of media and computer materials for review by school media specialists and computer coordinators.
