Following the special singing, the pastor, Rev. Julian Ransom gave his scrip ture: Joshua 1:1-3; 10-11. After the scripture a quartet consisting of Joyce Oxendine, Annie M. Chavis, Rudy Lock lear, and Mitchell Oxendine, with Vicki Ransom at the piano sang "He Whispered Sweet Peace to Me" a mes sage in song which blessed many hearts. The pastor then gave way to the Rev. Isaiah Locklear who gave an inspira tional talk to the congregation aimed mainly to the children telling them that the key to a long life is to honor your father and mother. The pastor used as his text "Possessing God's Gifts" which consisted of 4 gifts. 1. The gift of salvation. a.' you can't have it until you possess it 2. The gift of love. a. God is love. b. There is no fear in love. Perfect love cast out all "fear. 3. The gift of the spirit of meekness. a. To be meek, you must have a humble heart b. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 4. The gift of the spirit of forgiveness. a. Forgiveness comes from the heart b. Forgive and forget It was a message that caused us to look at ourselves and challenged us to put others first and dedicate our lives to the service of the Lord. Closing prayer was by Bill Bryant We thank God for our visitors and invite anyone that is not affiliated with a church to come out and join us for a good time in the Lord. On Sunday night the young adult choir went to Sycamore Hill Church near Maxton and joined them in their youth night services which empha sized the church of tomorrow. Several young peoples sing ing groups rendered music in song and the congregation was blessed through these songs. The speaker of the hour was Rev. Please remember the sick and the sin sick in your prayers. Our Spring Revival will begin the 4th Sunday in March. We will be announc ing speakers and times later, but we need to start praying now for the revival. EVERGREEN CHURCH ! Mark will celebrate his second birthday Friday, February 28 at his great grandmother's, Mrs. Vemie Mae Locklear, home. Mark is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Jacobs of Route 1, Pembroke. .. Remember all the bereaved families in prayer. Pray for the families of Dorothy Fields and Rev. Joseph Oxendine. 1Ws|kt For Today IW'whST yftu- can. Tbe smallest good deed is better by far than the greatest good intention. We'll never get much accomplished in life if our good deeds are only just mentioned. One dollar that's given is worth much more than merely a promise of $20. For ? ,i?llar will buy a few little unrigs, but a promise, won't buy any. So if we always intend to visit sick and don't ever put it in action, what we plan to do won't help matters much and surely won't bring satisfaction. So, do what you can and give what you can to help your less fortunate neighbor. And you can be sure, that you will receive a very great prize for your labor. Please pray for us at Evergreen. IvfORDS cr HOPE By Charles W. Godfrey, Pembroke Sefeolk Day \ Paator Adveotlat Cfaarcb 8 It has been rightly observed that our Lord Jesus Christ was both conservative and radical. He defended the laws of God and He revered the prophets of old. He built His message on the Old Testament-the Bible of His day. At the same time, He broke with His contemporaries in their emphasis on human traditions. He did things that shocked the conservatives of His day--He ate with sinners. He treated women and children with concern and dignity. He disregarded nit-picking rules that made life a burden. He never relaxed His emphasis on God-given truth, but He recognised the transitory nature of human institutions and convention. To some. He seemed like a "gadfly," while to others He fulfilled the mission of s "watchdog." It is characteristic of the human race that people tend to gravitate toward extreme positiona. We have seen people swing from self-depreciation to self-worship. One extreme may be as harmful as the other. We have seen others swing from rigidity to permissiveness. -Whocan say which is worse! Still others swing from materialism to irresponsibility. Which is worse-to be too "up-tight" or to "hang too loose"? We need the gadflies to propel us and the watchdogs to control us. Ndthing helps more to keep us on course than the Christian principle of love- not just emotional attachment, but real caring the lasts and lasts and lasts. Regard for God and for other people will keep us on a vsurse that wfl] make us most useful to God snd moot helpful to our neighbors. This n the reason that are are offering to this community our "Open Bible Crusade." Kor the ihinMng people of this ares who really want to study the deep truths of the Bible, and comprehend the meanings of prophecies in Daniel and in Revelation, not as some man ; Interprets them, but as God Himself interprets them through His holy Word. This Friday i penning, February 28, at 7:00 p.m., are will be studying "The Truth About the Devil and paath." Then beginning next Sunday, March 2, we arfll begin studying some of the major : ptupjmcles of Daniel and Revelation, and are arill aee how very important they are to our day. We wfl] discover that we are living right in the midst of many of these last day prophecies and - that-they are being fulfilled right now. We invite you to join us for these exciting ppeeeotatiuns. You'll have a good time, and you'll understand your Bible better than you have previously understood it We haves nursery and baby sitting service for children 10 years and younger. Please plan to aome and participate in these meetings. We have good singing, and lnaay who have eome to our three meetings thus far have told me personally that they thoroughly enjoyed them. So come on out to the junction of highway* 710/711-look for the Vghtodsign that eaye "OPENBIBLECRU8ADE" and turn in for a spiritual feast I can assure jw that yen won't be sorry you earns. m - - > iMik . % .
