Larry Brooks, principal, looks on as M,s. Jean McCall\ teacher assistant, presents gifts to these dedicated workers. We appreciate your hard work, ladies! . _ Say you read it in Carolina Indian Voice. The . Sunday chool Lesson .. , ^by John R Brayboy Sai.em Missionary Baptist Church False Hopes for Peace (Jeremiah 28:5-11) I. Fain Hope (Jeremiah 28:5-9) II. Popular Prophecy (Jeremiah 28:10-! I) III True Prophecy (Jeremiah 28:12-11) I Vain Hope (Jeremiah 28:12H) As election time comes around this is a very appropriate lesson for us all. We live in a time when people like to hear and have false hope because, like Israel, it is news that they ant to hear People no longer want to hear the truth. Judah was being punished for refusing to repent of its sin. Hanniah came prophesying and telling the people that the lenders and craftsmen in captivity would return intwo years and everything would be back to normal. When leaders do not tell people the truth, they do an injustice to the people Preachers of the gospel, called of God, have an obligation to tell the whole Inith when the) proclaim the word of God When.) preacher or any Christian tells someone that if thc> just do good, without being born again, (hat they w ilt be alright. thc> are spreading false hope to lost people Hanniah told Judah what tiicy wanted to hear It was not the truth, but it sounded good to them Just because something sounds good docs not mean that it is good If it is not backcdjipby God's word then it is not good HadthcpcoplcofJudah thought they would have known that Hanniah was a false prophet. Jesus warned us to be a ware of false prophets. In order to know w ho is a false prophet we must know what God's word says. Jeremiah knew that what Hanniah had said was not true This put him in an uncomfortable situation with the people, but he knew that he must tell them the truth. Even though they w ould not listen that would not change the truth. Jeremiah reminded the people that the true prophets in the past had pronounced things thai came to pass. What God says will come to pass whether people believe it or not. Today many do not believe in the imminent return of Christ, but that docs not change the fact that he will return. //. Popular Prophecy (Jeremiah 28:10-11) Hanniah took the wooden yoke that Jeremiah wore around his neck to symbolize the yoke that Judah was under and broke it. False teachers always tell people what they want to hear The true man of God will proclaini the truth regardless of the cir cumstances tnat surround him U' course, people want lo hear things thai soothe their cars, not that the> have to repent of their sins and receive forgiveness from God. 111. True Prophecy (Jeremiah 2H:l 2-1-I) Jeremiah reminded the people tlial Hanmah had done them a disscn ice by telling them that things would gel better Instead of things getting bet- . ler for them, things would get a lot worse God's way is and has always been for people to turn them from sin and seek forgiv eness. When they refused to do so they only bring harsher judgment upon themselves. Because Judah did not accept Jeremiah's message instead of Hanniah's. God pronounced greater judgment than before Babylon would takeover the land of Judah and the nations around them Just as Jeremiah did Christians today need to expose false prophets for what they arc. People lodav do not need false hope They need the truth of God's w ord that will reprove and correct them. Not only sinners, but Christians also. Unsaved person. 1 urge you to seek the truth and not seek after things that soothes the ears The truth is that you are a sinner separated from God and if you die in that condition, you will spend eternity in hell. God provided a plan for everyone to escape from the torment of hell. Repent of your sins, ask God for forgiveness and accept Jesus Christ as your saviour God will save you for . Christ's sake. Gbd bless you all until next week. , y? I MAKING A POLITICAL DECISION I TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5,1996 -STATE GENERAL ELECTIONS NC HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES?ROBESON- HOKE-SCOTLAND COUNTIES - DISTRICT 87?
