Ever} true follower of Christ wants to find the true church of Jesus Christ.
However, there is much confusion on this subject There are mans churches
and each says. "We are the true church." How can sou be certain, which is
God's true church today'.'
If all the different llags in the world were hung upon a line, could you tell
which is your flag? Surely Just as you can easily locate your flag by certain
specifications, you can easily and with certainty locate which is the true
church of Jesus Christ. Elder Joseph Bullard focuses in this Search for Truth
on revealing these identifying marks.
God reveals the false church and He calls it Baby lon Revelation I 7:3-5:
"So He carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman
sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven
heads and ten horns. 4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet
colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden
cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: 5 And
upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY. BABYLON THE
GREAT. THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE
EARTH."
"Babylon is fallen." From what has she fallen? From Bible truth! God
says that His people are still in Baby lon, but He wants His people to come out.
Revelation 18:2. 4: "And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying.
Babylon the great is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the
hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird." "And
I heard another voice from heaven, saying. Come out of her. my people, that
ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."
Just before Jesus comes, a message is to go to everyone on planet earth.
Revelation 14:6-12: "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven,
having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and
to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud
voice. Fear God, and give glory to him: for the hour of his judgement is come:
and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains
of waters. 8 And there followed another angel, saying. Babylon is fallen, is
fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the
wrath of her fornication. 9 And the third angel followed them, saying with
a loud voice. If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark
in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the
wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His
indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the
presence of the holy angles, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 Ant the
smoke of their torment ascendeth the mark of his name. 12 Here is the
patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God. and
the faith of Jesus."
By comparing Jeremiah 6:2, Isaiah 51:16, and Corinthians 11:2, we come
too only one conclusion, that this woman of Revelation 12 is a figure or
symbol of the true church of Jesus Christ. Revelation 12:1: "And there
appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the
moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:"
Chapter 12 of Revelation describes the conflict between Christ and Satan-how
Satan has tried to destroy God's church. Revelation 12:3,9: "And there
appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having
seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his head." "And the great
dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which
. deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were
cast out with him."
In Ezekiel 4:6 we read, I have appointed thee each day for a year. So 1,260
days equals 1,260 years. This is important to know as we look at Revelation
12:6 and it tells us how long the church was to be persecuted. "And the woman
fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they
should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days."
The dragon is the devil, the woman is the church, and the remnant is a
church that will keep all the original teaching of the original church of Christ.
Revelation 12:17: "And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to
make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of
God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Revelation 19:10: "...for
the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy ."

The Lord has true followers in all churches John ID 16 "And other sheep
I have. which are not of this fold: them alsc> I must bring, and thev shall hear
mv \oice. and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd "
God is calling each of us. John 10 27 AU sheep hear mv voice, and I
know them, and thev follow me "
Those who keep the truth are going to go through those pearls gates
Revelation 22:14: "Blessed are thev that do his commandments, that thev
mav have right to the tree of life, and mav enter in through the gates into the
cits," ^

Eastern Band
Chief to be
Sworn In
Leon Jones. Principal Chief of the
Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians,
has nominated and on May 4 Tribal
Council confirmed the appointment
of Harry C. Martin as the first Chief
Justice of the Cherokee Supreme
Court.
Chief Justice Martin is a former
associate justice of the North Carolina
Supreme Court of Appeals. In
October, Chief Justice Martin retired
as the Chief Circuit Mediator for the
United States Court of Appeals for
the Fourth Circuit, where he had
served for five years. In addition.
Chief Justice Martin has served as
the senior resident superior court
judge in Asheville for many years,
and has practiced law in Asheville
and Hillsborough, with his sons
Matthew and John in the firm Martin
and Martin, P.A. In March, Chief
Justice Martin was part of the legal
team that obtained the largest verdict
in the history of Orange County.
A native of western North Carolina,
Chief Justice Martin is a veteran
of the Pacific Theater of World War
II. Martin holds an undergraduate
degree from the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, a law degree
from Harvard Law School, a masters
degree in law from the University of
Virginia and has studied at the National
College for Judges and Oriel
College of Oxford University. Chief
Justice Martin has taught law at UNC
and Duke University.
Chief Justice Martin is married to
the former Nancy Dallam and, in
addition to his sons, has a daughter,
Mary, who is an architect in Miami.
Chief Justice Martin will lead the
development of a new and independent
court system for the Eastern
Band of Cherokee Indians. A formal
induction ceremony will be held on
May 31 at 10 a.m. at the Tribal
Council Building in Cherokee.

Measuring Your Portfolio
There is more to the stock market
than just the "Dow." Although that
may sound obvious, it warrants comment
for those investors who are
disconcerted by the current ups and
downs of the Dow Jones Industrial
Average. Without negating the significance
of these shifts for those
w ho invest in the 30 stocks that make
up the Dow, let's review all the indexes
from the perspective of
investors with diversified portfolios.
First, a few basics:
What Is an Index?
An index is a composite of securities
designed to replicate.the structure
and performance of a specific segment
of the financial markets. Market
indexes are developed and used as
comparative measurements for the
performance of securities with similar
investment style attributes. The
most commonly quoted index is the
Dow Jones Industrial Average.
What Is the Dow?
In 1884, Charles Dow compiled a
list of eleven stocks, nine railroads
and two manufacturing firms. The
average of the closing prices of the
stocks was posted in a financial bulletin
that he published with his
partner, Edward Jones. The financial
bulletin was the forerunner of
The Wall Street-Journal, and Dow's
list of stocks evolved into the Dow
Jones Industrial Average.
Today there are actually four Dow
Jones Averages. In addition to the
Industrial Average there are: the
Transportation Average, which consists
of 20 airlines, railroads and
trucking companies: the Utility Average,
comprised of 15 gas, electric
and power companies and the Dow
Jones Composite Average, which
includes all 65 companies that make
up he other three averages.
It is the Dow Jones Industrial
Average that is reported on television.
radio and in newspapers during
their daily stock reports. However,
today the Industrial Average monitors
30 key industrial companies,
which account for about 15% of the
total value of all U.S. stocks.
The Bow is a price-weighted index,
which means that component
stocks are accorded relative importanbe
based on the price per share of
their stock. Consequently, higherpriced
stocks have a greater
percentage impact on the index than
lower-priced stocks. If there is a
sharp increase in the price of one of
the stocks that make up the Dow. it
can push the Dow index to highs
while other market-weighted indexes
languish.
More Measures than the Dow
Although the Dow may be the
most widely reported index, there are
others that measure man> broader
market sectors. There are indexes
for domestic stocks, foreign stocks,
large companies and small companies.
domestic bonds, foreign bonds,
long-term bonds, short-term bonds,
etc.
If you have diversified your portfolio
by choosing securities in various
asset classes (stocks, bonds and'or
cash reserves) and investment styles,
you should not look exclusively at a
general index like the Dow Jones
Industrial Average to fairly measure
the performance of your securities.
For the most accurate evaluation,
you should view your portfolio in the
context of each of the different investment
styles that it includes. There
are indexes that can provide measurement
for both a very broad.or a
very narrow market segment. For
example:
?The Standard & Poor's 500 (S&P
500) index is a broader market measurement
than the Dow. The
companies that comprise it account
for nearly two-thirds of the value of
all stocks traded in the U.S. It monitors
400 industrial companies, 20
transportation companies, 40 utilities
and 40 financial companies.
Among these are the 30 Dow industrial
companies. The S&P 500 is a
market-weighted index, which means
that each stock is weighted according
to the total market value of its
outstanding shares. Therefore, the
stocks of larger companies have a
greater impact on the performance of
the index than the stocks of smaller
companies. The S&P 500 is often
considered a benchmark for largecompany
stock investors.
? The Nasdaq Composite index,
also known as the over-the-counter
index, includes the 5,499 stocks
traded on the Nasdaq. These stocks
make up over 17% of the value of all
U.S. stocks traded. Like the S&P, the
Nasdaq is a capitalization-weighted
index, so the bigger companies tend
to dominate the index.
Since the Nasdaq index includes
over 700 technology stocks, which
account for over 37% of the index,
the Nasdaq may also provide the
most accurate measurement of technology
stock performance.
-- The New York Stock Exchange
Composite index monitors 2.834
stocks, including most of the S&P
500. representing oxer 82% of the
value of all U.S stocks. The New
York Stock Exchange Composite,
like the Nasdaq, is a capitalizationweighted
index.
? The Russell 3000 follows the
3.000 largest American stocks. It
includes only common stocks within
the U.S. and its territories. Their
combined value accounts for 98% of
the total value of all U.S. stocks.
- The Russell 1000 monitors the
1.000 largest U.S. companies, and
although it represents one-third of
the stocks monitored by Russell, it
accounts for 90% of the value of the
Russell 3000. This is a good indicator
for the U.S. large-company stock
investor.
? The remaining two-thirds of
these companies are monitored by
the Russell 2000. The value of these
stocks represents the remaining 10%
of value of the Russell 3000. The
Russell 2000 is considered representative
of UJ.S small-and mid-size
company stocks.
Like the Dow. the Russell indexes
are price-weighted indexes. All other
Russell indexes are subsets of the
Russell 3000 Index.
If you want to measure the performance
of fixed income securities,
you have another universe of indexes
from which to choose. A fixed income
investment should be compared
to the appropriate bond index depending
on the type of bond and its
maturity. For Example:
? The Salomon Brothers Broad
Investment Grade Bond index measures
the monthly, market-weighted
total return of all Treasury, agency,
investment grade or better corporate,
and mortgage-backed securities that
have a stated maturity of one year or
longer and with at least S25 million
outstanding.
-- The Uehman Brothers Government/Corporate
Bond index measures
the monthly, market-weighted total
return of all Treasury, agency and
investment grade corporate bonds
with maturities of greater than one
year and with a minimum of SI
million outstanding.
This is a much-abbreviated sample
of indexes for each specific segment
of the financial markets. When measuring
investment performance, it is
important to use the appropriate comparative
indexes in order to make a
meaningful evaluation.
