Jacobs officiating. Burial followed
at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hasty.
Strickland was born on May 2,
1942, in Robeson County. * He
worked in textiles.
He was preceded in death by his
parents. Wade and Rethea Mae
Miller Strickland.
Surviving are his tw.o sons,
Steve and Allen Strickland of
Maxton; a daughter, Michelle
Strickland Baker of Chippawa,
Pa.; three brothers, Brantley
Strickland, Dexter Strickland and
Arnold Strickland, all of Maxton;
and six grandchildren.

Wednesday, April 18 in his home.

was in Rock Grove Baptist Church

Mr. Ransom is survived by six

Thedford Henderson. Burial followed
in Leitch Creek Cemetery in
Maxton.
Mr. Locklear is survived by his
wife. Aileen L. Locklear of the

of Shannon, the Rev. Ernest

Malcolm Lockiear. all of Red
Springs, and James C. Locklear.

Tommy Blue officiating. Interment
followed in Reedy Branch Cnurch
cemetery.
A native of Robeson County, he
was bom May 26, 1926. He was
preceded in death by his parents,
Lawrence Carter and Ada Hunt
Carter; and a son, Gary Carter.
He was a veteran of the U.S.
Army. Carter was a member of
Reedy Branch Baptist Church. He
retired fromt he maintenance
department at Converse.
Surviving are his wife, marie
Chmura Carter of the home, six
sons, Carlton Robert Sampson,
James Carter, Ricky Carter, and
Johnny Leverne Carter, all of
Lumberton, Ronnie Carter of
Selma. and Randy Carter of
Fairmont; three daughters, Debra
Ann Locklear and Rhonda C.
Hunt, both of Lumberton, and
Nancy C. Reynolds, of Georgia;
two sisters, Mary Ann Hunt of
Lumberton. and Berlie Tyler, of
Fairmont; 18 grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren.

A native of Robeson County, he
was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are a sister, Louise
Lowery, and two cousins, Virginia
Bullard and Evelyn Collins.

Miller and Bill J. Locklear. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Locklear is survived by his
wife, Pearlene Locklear of the
home; a son, Bobby H. Locklear of
Pembroke; a daughter, Diane
Locklear of the home; two brothers,
Roy Locklear of Pembroke
and Thurman Locklear of Rennert;
three sisters, Edna M. Bryant and
Thelma Locklear, both of
Lumberton, and Erma L. Oxendine
of Pembroke; and three grandchildren.

Pembroke - Ms. Maude Jacobs,
89, of 10450 N.C. 72 West, died
Saturday, April 21, in her home.
The funeral was conducted at 3
p.m. Wednesday, April 25, in Oak
Grove Holiness Church by the
Rev. Grove Oxendine. Burial was
in St. Annah Church cemetery.
Ms. Jacobs is survived by a
daughter, Bonnie Jones of
Pembroke; two sons, Harvey
Jacobs and Hervey Jacobs, both of
Pembroke; eight grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren.

Published each Thursday in Pembroke, N.C. by
First American Publications
The first issue of the weekly newspaper, The Carolina Indian
Voice was published on January 17, 1973, by then editor,
owner and founder, Bruce Barton with a $500 personal loan.
It has a proud history of continuous publication, having never
missed an issue since its inception. Bruce's sister, Connee
Brayboy, the current editor, is the only person to have
eiyoyed full-time employment since the newspaper's inception.
A brother, Garry Lewis Barton came to work full-time
in 1973 and ended his affiliation with the newspaper in 1985;
its founder, Bruce Barton left to further his education shortly
thereafter. Another brother, Ricky Barton, has been affiliated
on a part-time basis with the newspaper since its inception.
For the first time in years, the four siblings are reunited

Clean-Up Day for NC
Indian Cultural Center
Volunteers from across the state are invited to gather at the site of the
NC Indian Cultural Center, near Pembroke, for a cleanup day April 28,
2001. The event is being coordinated by the NCICC to make the site more
attractive to visitors and to increase public involvement in the development
of the center.
Time: 7:00a.m. -2:00p.m.
Activities: Cleaning, cutting grass, painting, repairing, and lunch will
be served. Please bring any available tools such as : backhoes, wheelbarrow,
axes, pickup trucks, yard racks, bobcat for lake and river cleanup.
